"Tankers and Grunts" ... USMC OIF Dio
Posted by HeavyArty on Friday, October 7, 2005 5:29 PM
Here are a few pics of a dio I just finished for a customer. The tank is my USMC M1A1HC "Angry American" that I did a while ago, it will be replaced by one he is building. The setting is "Somewhere in Iraq", 2003, OIF 1. It is a checkpoint/roadblock and the grunts are going by looking at the tankers thinking something along the lines of, "We walk, they ride...Lucky bas^%$#&!!"

The two tanker figures are from DML's old ODS era tank crew with IBA clad torsos added. The Grunts are DML's Modern Marines. The base is made of plaster on wood. The wall is styrofoam covered with plaster. All paper items, MRE box, water bottle box, signs, Saddam mural, were all made by me and printed off on my computer.

Here it is.

Most excellent ! Even though I was Airborne (82nd), we walked enough that I can actually hear the thoughts going through the minds of the infantry walking by.

The whole dio is really great, I am truely impressed.

All I can say is it looks great, Gino!

Did you draw the Saddam mural yourself? I can't tell if it's a drawing or a photo.
Either way, it looks great!

Thanks, glad you like it. The mural is a photo off the internet with a grid placed over it so it looks like tiles. There were lots of tile murals of him all over Iraq. I printed it out on my printer, pasted it up there, then cut out some tiles for damage, and lastly "X"-ed him out.

Don't worry, there is plenty of fine dust. It just gets negated by the camera.

Trully a Wonderful job on this project, I bet your customor is trully honored to have that one His Wall, if you know what I Mean. I totaly love it in everyway. Just remarkable how the deateals just jump out at you. Are those Bullet holes in the walls or is that just the age of the walls? I really like the Colc decal on the wall in both langeages. Again a job well done Sir. I salute you on this build.

Glad you like it. My customer was very happy with it as well. The holes in the walls are supposed to be bullet holes.

Many, many times have I wished ill on those fortunate enough to ride while I humped along in their dust. This is a great dio, but that's really no surprise, just another demostration of your skills, HeavyArty! Thanks for the peek.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

Thanks, but it is more dusty and dirty than shows in the pics. Also, not everywhere in Iraq was/is full of rubble. We tried to cause as little collatteral damage as possible, esp. in cities and urban areas without government buildings/facilities. Too late to add anything now anyways. The buyer already has it and likes it just the way it is.
