one bit of advice from experience, the sand over there is extremely fine... almost to a talcum powder consistancy, I know because I've deployed twice to the middle east, and been in a couple of mean sand storms.

Well, it would be africa, i'm wondering what color i should paint it?
The sand on the beaches here is white, and i know that's not right.
I have a few different tans and sands in my paint collection, i just don't want to use something the exact color of my models. I guess i could try lightening or darkening it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Well i used real sand but it really depends on where in the world you are. Like what Desert you wanted to depict.

I would say using fine grade railroad ballast, and play-doh would do just the job

I was wandering what one would use for sand in a dessert themed dio. would you just paint the sand? That would be a problem for me as i don't own an airbrush. Also, how might you simulate sand dunes?. It would be for a 1/72 scale model. Thanks for your suggestions!
