Question about display cases?

I friend of mine who does not model much suggested that I use a fish tank (10 gal are the ceapest) to do a dio in. even with a lid and a light it wouldn't cost more than $20 (if you shopped around some). I know that this would take up some space as well as being heavyish. Has anyone ever tried this? Let me know.
