I take some old styrofoam sheets from packing crates and cut out the dimensions that I want then break of chunks to simulate blown out walls. Also take some acetone and brush a little on the edge of the sheet and the acetone will melt away it giving some nice rough edges. Then mix some drywall mud and coat the pieces in it allow to dry and using coffee, brush on the dried pieces. Then age as you like.

I am curious as well, SHERMANFREAK. are you a minister in canada or as your profile says, a missionary. (if so, where to?)(or do you do both?) My dad is a minister and he also does a little bit of missions work in Africa. ( i've also been wondering it since I first saw your profile)

Being in the home remodelling biz I've found that bits of broken up stucco in various sizes work great too. This may only apply to certain areas of the country as stuccoed homes aren't everywhere.

one think you can use to simulate wall pieces and stuff like that is tile peces broken with a hammer, it works great. If you go to any store that sales carpets, flooring, wallparer, and fabrics (which are also great for making a bunch of stuff in dioramas) you just need to ask them if they have any discontinued pieces or sets that you could have and they will usually give to you at no charge

if you want I can download some more blown out houses on ronUSMC's webpage so you can have more refference pics to choose from. Granted they are all from Kosovo, but the houses are more or less the same styling?

Mike - nothing but, and even more narrowed down than that ..... last 8 kits were all Shermans, on the bench -
2 Shermansand a Staghound (kinda like a Sherman with wheels).

Alex - because that's the name my parents chose for me. There are times that I wish I had another name, but it does kind of grow on a person after the first 45 or so years.

Mike - way off pal ...... it would take me a good 3 days to drive to a meeting in N.Y.

Sheetrock, gyproc or whatever you call it in the U.S. (I'm not sure) is a great medium for making plaster / concrete walls. You can carve it or break it to the size and patterns that you want. For wood try bits and pieces of balsa wood to simulate wooden beams, rafters, etc. For the rubble more bits and pieces of all listed above and kitty litter (unused of course).

diarama, blown up homes
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 17, 2003 11:52 PM
Hi guys,
I have a question that might be asked alot of times, but here it goes. I'm making a diarama of a beat up, all blown up Berlin in 1945. I want to make some blown up houses or wreckege frome homes. How do I do that without buying a set of a wrecked home, because I want to compose my own wreckege?
Thanks guys.Big Smile [:D]
