How do you make Diorama's?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 19, 2006 12:33 AM

Hi all

Okay I'm feeling adventurous enough to attempt a diorama! I want to have a diorama, I need instructions from the ground up because I've never done a Dio.

Did you look at any of the threads in this forum?  If you missed it, look in this very same forum at the 2nd topic "How I build dioramas, step by step" All the info you will need is found there. Good luck.

The thread pharoah put up is pretty good.  lots of info to help you along.

if you're looking for something specific then tell us about it.  first off, what kind of dio are you looking at building?  countryside? in a town? in a city?  what kind of vehicle/scene are you looking to portray?

you need this book

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0890241953/qid=1140428231/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-7735369-2736768?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

It's published by Kalmbach Books, which also does are favorite magazine.  This book will tell you how to do it all.  Keeping a hardcopy around is definately worth the money, because you can reference it whenever you need it.  I'm starting on my 2nd or 3rd attempt at a diorama, and I'm happy that I have this book.

Semper Fi,

Chris

Well the vehicle is A King Tiger, it's going to be in a Russian Forrest.

you're going to need to look for 3 things then;

1. placement of figs, vehicles, trees and other terrain stuff (rocks, hills). Make sure everything is balanced out with no boring sides

2. find out how to make the trees that you need for the forrest.

3. decide on what you want to portray in the dio (like tank reloading, or just strolling through the forrest.

I'd have to double check my history but I think the Germans were pushed out of Russia by the time the KT arrived.

I think the fighting was pushed back into Poland by the time of the KT. What unit is the tank dressed up for, I might be able to look through my books and give you an accountable answer.

I dont know what you mean by signing up at  The Aerodrome but as far as I know you can read the posts without signing up for anything. It is just that they have all the background  info there on this build since the beginnig 2 years ago.Scale Auto has all my posts since last July.LSP and ARC, as well as Armourama also carry my postings but the Aerodrome has been there since the begining and therefore has the most info.
Cheers! John.
