                        Im new here but have been modeling since I was a kid. The scene is set in Grafenweir,Germany in the summer of 1981.(Yes Iwas there,thats me in the commanders hatch in the lead tank.) M60A3 has blown an engine and has been towed to a maintinence site to have it replaced. Everything is 1/35th scale. M88A1 is AFV CLUB. Tanks and jeep are TAMIYA. Figures are TAMIYA and VERLINDEN. M60A3 engine and hull are from the legend kit with TONS of detail added from memory and photos.Tanks and 88 are replicas from my unit, FOX TROOP, 2/2 ACR.All load plans and markings are correct.The big box beside the 88 is a scratch built shipping container actually used to ship tank engines.All tarps are made from tissue and watered down white glue.The sling holding the engine is scratch built.All paint is TAMIYA except for the artists oil washes. Feel free to critique and ask questions.

                        Looks good to me.  I like the camo, forget what it was called though, something like GenTex camo.  Looks good.  Great job on the engine container and broke M60A3 too.  Good job.

                        Hey Zander, 

                        Very nice job.  I was in the Marines from '75 to '79 and tho' I was in artillery I had a special fondness for the M60A1.  Nice dio, it has all the elements that a great diorama needs. Keep up the great work.

                        It took me 3 months and about 200 hours to complete. I cant remember what the camo was called but it was the first form of digital camo the military used. Thanks agaain for all the great compliments.

                        i have a few questions

                         how big is the base? it looks kinda like a kids sand box  on a much smaller scale

                        is that regular sand box type sand on the base

                        The base is 27" x 17". And believe it or not its not sand, its a mixture of used glass beads and the smaalest railroad ballest i could find. about 10 parts beads and 1 part ballast.The used glass beads is about the smallest thing I could find to represent the fine powder at Graf.

                        great dio. but as long as you're flashing back to graf, it reminds me of my days ( 1978-1980 ) of trying not to get high centered in my chapparal because you tankers kept digging the trails so deep !

                        After looking at this master piece (what a work of art!), I've decided to start my own project as well.  I don't think it would come out to at this level of work, but it certainly did inspire me to re-start building models again.  Great work and I shall bother you with lots of questions later on!

                        Heres a pic of the plate I had made for the diorama. I added the unit crest and patch.

                        Something to remember.....when you build a diorama of this size and pick out a place to put it. Be sure and remember to add the thickness of the wooden frame you build around it ....OR IT WONT FIT IN THE CABINET YOU HAD CHOOSEN TO PUT IT IN!!!!!   Cant believe I didnt do it!!!

                        Here's a question... how did you make your trees, are they part Woodland Scenics? A well done, realistic tree is an obsession of mine, and I like yours a lot.

                         Reread his original post, rudedog. I believe what you are inquiring about are "scratchbuilt shipping containers used to ship tank engines".
                         As far as asking him anything, he only posted 6 times and the last was in April of this year. I bumped his posting of this diorama on the 10th of this month, hoping to get him to post more, but so far he hasn't responded. Sure would like to see more of his work.
