Hi Aj.
Thanks for the tip. I could have sworn I've seen film clips of WWII europe with M-3's in them that look like the one in my dio. But as I said at the beginning, I'm mostly an aircraft builder, (and I wasn't really going for the historical accuracy thing this time around). Guess I'll have to build another armor kit diroama and put it in the approriate theater of operation. Hey, I see what you're doing here! It's all a sinister ploy to convert me into a full time armor modeler. So that's how you guys do it!
I just finished a Skoda 35(t) and was planning on setting it in an eastern front dio with some Russian soldiers. Since the 35(t) was originally a Chech tank that was taken by the Nazi's, I'm guessing that would be an appropriate setting, right? Thanks again for the input.
Nice composition and construction. Good looking faces on the figures, too.
Couple thoughts, though.
I just learned in an nother post, the sponson guns were in fixed mounts to fire straight forward.
For future reference, use a small drill or even a fresh #11 blade to open up the barrel a bit for a more realistice appearance.
As a historical point (and I made the same mistake with that tank many years ago), that version of the M3 was not used in Europe by US forces.
Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Greetings folks. I'm mostly an aircraft builder but from time to time I'll do an armor piece. In this case I built this little diorama back in March. I took me ten days to construct everything you see here. I titled it, "Liberating Caen". Here are the rest of the specs;
Tamiya M-3 Stuart painted with Tamiya paints, weathered with pastel chalks and an oil wash. Decals are Archer dry transfers and Verlinden.
Custom Dioramics ruined building painted with Tamiya paints, pastel chalks and an oil wash. I added the window frame and broken stained glass window. I hand painted the stained glass and added the collapsed wooden floor which was made from balsa wood as well as the wooden timbers. The wall paper on the inside is also from Custom Dioramics.
The base; The rubble is also from Custom Dioramics and the cobblestone street is made up of Custom Dioramics red bricks and each brick was laid by hand, then given a wash with burnt umber and covered with gray pastel chalks. The street lamp is from Verlinden as well as the sidewalk section.
Figures; All figures are painted with Tamiya paints and the faces and hands are painted with oils. Tank commander is from Lincoln County Line. All four foot soldiers are Verlinden.
Enjoy the views!
