Trelleborg Tents, do they exist in scale?
Posted by Medic_01 on Thursday, September 14, 2006 11:05 AM

Does anyone know of any scale items of these particular tents? They are called Trelleborg Inflatable tents, and we use them as a field hospital. Pics below. They are swedish design if i remember rightly.

sorry about the pics, these are the best i can get for the moment.

Thanks

I have never seen them in any form for modelling. As a mater of fact, the only time I have seen them is when we land at casualty receiving and run inside to steal supplies. Wink [;)]

The only medical facilities I know of are the Verlinden "MASH" tent in 1/48 and Italeri has an "Aid Station" in 1/35. The verlinden set is only a bare bones shell of a korean era GP (small) tent with poorly molded flaps and windows with a red cross decal for the roof. The Italeri kit is a field expedient aid station with some 2x4 posts and a corrugated tin roof, but it does come with a litter and some WW2 equipment.

I would think (key word is "think") you could make a Trelleborg section fairly easy using styrene strips for the frame, sheet styrene for the doors and tissue for the outer shell. What scale? That's gonna be huge in 1/35 even if it is only one section. If you go for it make sure to post some pics!

What unit are you with?

bugger.

I thought scratch build was gunna be the go with it. Oh well, do some research and trial & error. It's a big job to kit it out inside completely...

I'd do it in 1:35 so it would be massive, the pics i have shown is only a "Light" version of the Air Transportable Hospital, when we run heavy, we have up to 40 tents, including everything from ED & OR, to Physio. It's brilliant. I'd probably only do a light display.

I'm with 3 Combat Support Hospital.

Be sure to keep us posted on the progress and post pics.

I am (was = retired March 06) a Navy Corpsman. I flew SAR and was the lead flight medic for Task Force Tarawa in 2003 at An Nasariyah. I don't believe we did any work with the 3rd. Up until March I also taught Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) at yall's flight medic school @ FT Rucker.
