Scale Versus Scale
Posted by Hamming on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 2:30 PM

Question [?]Hello everyone. Hamming here. I have a question about scale. Does anyone have a chart that showes the scale diferance between models scale and model rail road scale. In other words, I want to use model RR accessories for model Dio builds. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You for your time. E-Mail me at : amasijr@stny.rr.com

Here you go.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Model_railroad_scales

Basically, there is no equivalent to 1/35.  The closest is I Scale, which is 1/32.  To caveat, I have never seen any I Scale trains.

Z gauge is 1:220 scale

N gauge is 1:160 scale

HO gauge is 1:87 scale

O gauge is generally 1:48 scale, but can vary from 1:43 to 1:50

G gauge varies between 1:20.5 to 1:32 scale - most equipment is roughly 1:29 scale

Best thing is to look at the Walthers train catalogs - N/Z scale, HO scale, and Big Trains (O, S, & G).

If you read my above post...

"The closest is I Scale, which is 1/32."

A tree however, will work from just about any scale, since trees come in all sizes.  Just find the one that looks right to you.
