Right now I am experimenting with wall spackle, it has a slight sparkle in some light, giving it almost a pavestone appearance.  I'll test out some of the other ideas as well, see which i like the best

When I pour plaster slabs and bricks and it is close to drying, I sprinkle more dry plaster onto the slab. This gives a little rougher texture when dry, so it's not so smooth. I've got a set of the Kancali brick and rubble mold. I love 'em.

Hi there,

If you don't want the hassle of making a mold,you could try out a latex rubber mold from Kancali.They have various pre made street sections/corners. You simply have to glue it to your dio base with white glue,then  paint  in the desired colours.Their prices are quite reasonable.As for rubble,Gregory & Steve  hit the nail on the head,things like cat litter etc. are your best bet.Here is a good link to give you some inspiration,a very useful how to!:

Good luck with the dio mate,

Hey, Ive never tried streets before, but heres my idea on rubble.

Kind of the same as the one above.  First, get an empty CD case and remove everything inside (The paper and the oddly shaped things that hold the CD in place, all are a bit different.  Next you mix up some plaster or use extra from another project and pour it in.  Close the case and let it dry.  Now, it wont come out in one clean slab, you will have to crack and break it out, and in the end this gives you realistic looking rubble, and I have used it for everything from fine "dust" to what looks like chunks of buildings.  Just as some helpful ideas, you could try scribing bricks in before it dried, you could stick broken toothpicks in as it dried to look like supports or do other stuff to texture it or make it realistic.  Hope this helped.

-EDIT- added a picture of some of my results with this method but it isn't painted yet.

Fallschimjager2r;

To answer your question. Yes you can scribe your own streets from plaster. The easiest way to make these are to start with a basic slab. You will need to make a mold box to retain the wet plaster while it sets up. I use Lego blocks white glued to a piece of plexiglass for mine. I then mix the plaster according to the instructions on the side of the box and pour it into my mold. Once dry I scribe the detail in with a straight pin superglued into a piece of dowel.

For rubble. I use kitty litter, curbside dust and stone from my driveway and various bits of wood from stir sticks etc. to make bricks and building rubble I use a piece of poured plaster as described above and smash it up into realistic sized pieces.

Give it a try and you'll see what I mean.

Cheers;

Gregory

I'm starting a dio of a German 88.  I was wondering if its better to scribe your own streets, or but plasitc stamped streets.  Also I wanted know how to create realistic rubble and such.  This will be my second dio, but my first "armor".  If anyone would give me some pointers it would be great
