Over The Hedge dio finished (slapped together)
Posted by SteveM on Saturday, December 23, 2006 4:55 PM

Got tired of unfinished projects, too much guilt in starting new ones. So here it goes:

Took 4 figs set aside after rethinking a dio (that I'll bother you with next) and placed them on a base I made months ago to test out rubberized horsehair (for hedges). For lack of creativity or a better name, we'll call it-

"Over the Hedge "

Some inside shots taken last night...

Moved it outdoors this morning for a little better lighting and background...

The dudes...

One shot of detail (as to not totally bore you)...

Comment away. I'm just happy that I actually finished something, even a rehashingBig Smile [:D]

Ver nice, I like the hedges!  I also like how the figures are in poses that look natural.  Especially the guy scraping mud off his boot.  Not every diorama requires the figures to be striking up heroic poses with their rifles aimed or throwing a grenade.  Nice work!

After a long and vast search, I finally found it here:

After looking for so long, I couldn't believe how cheap it was- 'bout $2.00 US for a 4x6 brick. I bought a boatload. Arrived in less than a week!

That is pretty cool! I think it looks better, as mentioned before, in natural poses, and I like the outdoor shots with the light going in the right direction for the dude to be shading his eyes... but I'm sure you intended on that happening!

At first I thought your camo shelter halves were a bit too stark, but they look alot better in the natural outside light.  Great hedge and groundwork.  Very nice overall.

I fully admit that the paint job on these guys is just terrible... that's why they were yanked off the Sherman dio. Among other points, I can tell that I wasn't thinning the paint enough, and three of the four were painted with Tamiya. I've since upgraded my Vallejo selection and am trying to get better at oil paint flesh tones. With my cataract, I couln't see how bad it was until I took these shots. I'm gonna incorporate my dig cam as part of my builds from now on.

I appreciate the comments on the groundwork; this was more of a "figs to show off base" than the other way around. But feel free to blast away at any of it. I can take itBlack Eye [B)]Big Smile [:D]

 Steve M,

I know the feeling, guilty of the same thing, I too have many prospective dios and finishing them is WIP at best. I have to say your's is among the best I've seen on this forum and in professional made dios.

 Keep up the great work,
