Palm Tree Question
Posted by lizardqing on Monday, September 8, 2003 5:05 PM
This may seem like an odd question, but being from the mountains of north Georgia and never really been near the coast ,what color are the trunks of palm trees. I have looked at pictures of them but someone familar with them first hand may give a better idea. As always thanks for the help.

i live near atlanta, and ive been to the beach plentyTongue [:P]. theyre pretty much a light brownish. i built a plam tree once and i dusted it with a khaki color, it looked great. for the color though, i would reccoment tamiya earth brown, the make it lighter with dry-brushing. hope that help.

Yea that helps, only thing though, what color in testors paint would be close to the tamiya earth brown? Just don't have any tamiya paints in my collection nor am I around any shops that carry them. The closest shops that would to me is the War Room or AAA in Marietta if you familar with those and both of them are over an hour away.

Try Walmart Craft Department, Michaels, orHobby Lobby. At around $1.00 a bottle, you can get every shade even close to the color you're looking for. I don't waste expensive paint on scenery. Thin the thick paste down and it shold work fine. By the way, I stopped by AAA Hobbies in Marietta last Friday on my way back from Atlanta. Great little shop.

u live pretty close to me, do u know where berret parkway is? im live very close to that. i never eally use testors but i do u use model master, made by testors, i would use earth brown for that as well. its pretty close match, but i would make it proggresively lighter with drybrushing due to its darkness. but nevertheless it would look great. and just out of curisity, do u go to the ipms atlanta, or any of the hobby town usa competitions?

I know where that is , one of our jobs right now is at KSU. I have yet to go to a competition, have'nt really been back into it long so I am trying to get better before I would put anything in one. I think the closest Hobby town to me would be the one on Barret Pkwy and have been wanting to get by it. How often do they do comps or where can I find out more about them and ipms? Would not mind getting around others who enjoy doing this for a change.
About the palm tree, I went ahead and painted it a tan like color and am fixing to drybrush it a little. That and a few other little details and I'll be done with the dio.

ok the competition will be held on the 19th. im assuming you know where the store is.... anyway, i reccomened you take more than one of your tanks. there are many categorioes and you get gift certifigates if you win in you category. last competition i won around 100$ in gift certifigates. i will get back to you on when the time is, exc... but if all your kits look as good as the Bradley you previously posted, you are bound to win something. im lookin forward to seein you there, later.

Thanks, I have a general idea of where its at. I can find out for sure though. If I can get off work in time and get there is the only problem. I don't really have anything other than the Bradley and M151A2 I posted yesterday for now that is any good though. The only other ones I have are some basic cars. If you could find out what time it starts I would greatly appreciate it. You can email me if you want with the details.

yea i was bored in school today and since it was sept 11 i waqs thinking of the dates. when i observed that the 19 was on friday, i knew something was wrong. im thinking it is probably on a saturday, like it has been every time ive ben, witch would mean its on the 20th. as for the directions i can tell you more. first off do u get to beeret parkway by 41, or I-75? if you know the general area well, hebbo town is in a shopping center behind some restreants on the main road. it is behind outback steakhouse, and some tire place. if you know where target is, it is behind that, but target is off the main road. i probably dont make sense....... so ill just get the # tonighat and clarifly the dates, and times, exc... ill also get the phone number and give it to you so u can get good directions. just bring all the models you have though, reguarless of their finish.

palm trees out here in arizona are kind of real light tan and greyish color. trust me i know ived here for 33 years. and also on the trees once palm frons grow new ones the old 1s just drup and lay agenst the trunk. and just for kicks if anyone ever ask you do palm trees float, well they dont just like a sponge.
