Haven't done it with woodlands scenics stuff but I have used resin that I tinted with stain and paint. Makes a nice puddle, marsh, bog or stagnant pool. Plaster painted to color and then covered with gloss has worked well for the same thing. Since the muddy water is opaque it doesn't matter, you can make the effect with paint.

ive heard of people using diluted acrylics, pastels, and food dye for the effect

Anybody knows how to simulate this using woodland scenics water mix? Any links to pics?
