Wow! those are fantastic. everyone in the third dio seem a little too relaxed for people who are trying to kill each other though. Otherwise very well done.

The top one not too bad except for the casualties arm up in the air like that . could be the angle of the pic though.

the second one not bad at all. the only thing i noticed was the machine gunners sling is attatched to the pistol grip which it wouldnt be.

the third one with the marines and japanese just totally unrealistic. you have a machine gunner with a bayonet afixed never have seen that before. the only way i could see those soldiers that close is if they are all out of ammo. but the scene doesnt suggest that with soldiers aiming rifles at one another.

but as long as you enjoy them thats all that matters.

I believe that Japanese light machine guns were equipped with a bayonet mount, but I agree with the rest of your assessment of this scene.

I do like the helmet camo in this scene.

Maniac, I can completely appreciate what (I believe) it is you're doing- commissioning models and dios. I'm one more broken part away from doing the same thing with my current projectTongue [:P] However, my opinion is that if you gave your modellers less kits with more time to work on them, you might possess better dios with a truer accuracy. Some breathing room, and encouragement to take the time to properly reference and think a project through- ie "where does a gun belt attach?" or "is a fire fight at this close range even plausible?" In my imagination, I see some poor guy trying his damndest to shell out his work, nervously eyeing the stack of unstarted kits dropped off in front of him by a forklift. My observation is not meant to be sarcastic, but it is my first impression whenever I view the dios. Art Instructor and Joh seem to have good basic painting skills, but I would love to see these guys improve conceptually. Perhaps more allotted time is the key? Perhaps not. Maybe these guys make their living at this and need to factory-stamp them out.

Just my opinion and unsolicited suggestion... not intended to insult.

As I have said before, quality verses quantity.  If they take more time on the finer points, as opposed to finishing as many as possible in a short time, you should have better results.  They continue to be mediocre at best with minor flaws in most.

To follow up my post about the people being too relaxed in the third dio, you'd think that at least someone would have amunition in their weapon, so a few casualties lying around would also be pretty useful. And kenny the japanese in WWII had a habit for putting bayonets on just about every weapon they made.

Many thanks for your kind respones and comments! Giving my modelers less kits and more time
won't end up in better results. It took Art Instructor and Joh almost a month to finish each lot of work, something they should have finished in two weeks only. I believe they tried to do their best but sometime they don't have the right information. I'm not paying much and I'm satisfied with my bigger collection. Last Saturday I got a new wall-based display case - a 2.90 m long, 2.40 m high and 0.45 m deep - similar to the one you might have seen before, but located on another side of my showroom.

Continuing to accept mediocrity will only breed more of it.  I still think you are wasting your money for inferior products.  But if that is what you like, more power to you.  Whatever makes you happy.

Model Maniac,

I really enjoy seeing work of Joh and Art Instructor.  I think they do good job at building models.  However, you can see some of minor (and very obvious) mistakes.  All these things can be corrected easily and with just those minor changes, you can have even better dioramas.  We are not here to mind other people's businesses or trying to tell anyone that "your work is worthless compared to mine", but simply trying to help each other so that we can all get better at what we do.

What is your reason behind posting pictures of dioramas or models on this forum?  Is it a way of you to just tell people that "OH LOOK WHAT I HAVE" or is it that you looking for people's opinion and their thoughts on work of your colleagues?

I hope that you don't take my two cents worth comment in a wrong way.

ok have to throw another My 2 cents [2c] in here.

First off Model Maniac as stated before you have posted on an open forum and every registered user here can comment on what is posted so telling someone that the exception to the rule is kind of babyish to say the least. no one is trying to be a bully or put you down they are just stating how they feel about the subjects you have posted.

As for the time these models were built in not bad at all. You say these models should have been completed in two weeks. I think if they were they would have come out much more poorly. If you look at modelers from the expert to the beginner most spend months not weeks trying to put together a good if not great build. Anyone can slap some paint on something in a few days and call it done.

Me personaly i feel our criticisms good or bad are falling on the wrong ears. I dont know if joh or art instructor even see our posts. they are the two people who would benefit the most from them. then maybe they would see yea that doesnt look right or maybe i should have positioned those men in a different way. but then again maybe they are happy just pumping out products to make a buck. if i were building for a customer i know i would want it to be the best i could do for them not just okay.

on a final note model you are the one that has to be satisfied with the product you are getting not me or any other modeler on this site. So if you are happy with what you get as a product that you have paid for thats all that matters. but i still feel in numerous posts on the subjects you have posted if you only want good comments or comments from certain people you should put a little disclaimer on the topic you started such as "just posting these to show you my new dios please no comments"

enough from me the peanut gallery.

As I wrote earlier that I welcome people's opinions -positive or negative- as long as they were given in a constructive and friendly manner. Most people's comments have been friendly and constructive, no problem about that. But from the start several years ago I've found Arty's comments to be destructive, abusive and very unfriendly. But never mind, I'll tell you why.

Recently my home PC got a malware or parasite from the Net which set my IE's default home page to be "allsecuritynotes.com" instead of my own, and halt all IE's activities in just an hour or so. I have to close IE and load it again to solve the problem. I tried to kill it using latest update of leading anti-virus/anti-spyware sofwares namely McAfee, AVG, Ad-Aware and Spy Bot, but they all failed to kill the parasite. Now it's something I'll have to live with.

Since I'm powerless to bar Arty's comments, I'll just treat them like the parasite which annoys me from time to time. It's something I'll have to live with.

As someone who is reasonably new to the forums, I have been watching with interest the dio's submitted by model maniac and the replies from the FSM community.  IMHO, model maniac cops a fair share of neg. feedback.  Is it justified ? not my call. There are people on the forums with a hell of a lot of collective knowledge about the subject matter and a good eye for detail, and I respect that.  I cant see the point in submitting pictures of dio's built by a third party. As someone else has already commented, whats the purpose of  you posting ? what does it achieve ?  I'm sure people like heavy arty and ajlafleche would go a lot easier on you if it were your own work, not some commissioned job.   I'll be submitting pics of my first dio when completed, and I'm sure there will be constructive feedback.  Isnt FSM a place for modellers to exchange skills/ideas/advice ? Model maniac, if you want some constructive feedback, grab a  kit and a tube of glue and start building !

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I agree with this comment as well.

Model Maniac,

We are not picking on you or your work at all.  We are simply discussing work of JOH and Art Instructor.  Again, my eyes are not as well trained as others in this forum and I enjoy their work as much as I enjoy work of others.  I believe Heavyarty commented long time ago about your post by stating that "Why don't you build your own models?  You probably can do just as good if not better...." (well, maybe not exactly in those words, but something similar to it) I see that as words of encouragement.    Heavyarty (and many others in this forum)has been helping me a lot both in and out of this forum.    Believe me, he will be the first one to offer his hand to assist you in anyway he can.

Anyway, keep on posting those work of JOH and Art Instructor.  Many people do enjoy their work and hopefully we'll all learn from their work (both good and bad).

Also, take care of that computer virus! Big Smile [:D]

Wow, I've never been called an annoying parasite before.  I am honored.

As the others have said, we don't see the point of you posting third party models here and then getting offended when you get less than stellar comments about them.  Sorry, they are not great.  We have continually given constructive comments on how they could be made better and you continue to blow them off and say they are great.  If that is how you like them, fine.  Don't be offended as we continue to be harsh on them then.

Yes, I know you will come back and say you have built models in the past.  SO what, you aren't building them now, just showing off someone else's work.  That is one reason we don't get all excited when you do show them.  As we have said before, we would be much more impressed if you did them yourself and we could see how you get better by actually following the constructive comments given.

Keeping it in your witty computer analogy, right now, you are simply a pop-up add showing something you bought.
