Cobblestone streets
Posted by BigDuke634 on Sunday, March 4, 2007 8:58 AM
This may have been covered before,  but I'm thinking of building a diorama with cobblestone streets. What can be used for caulking between the stones?     Also, what kind of sidewalk should I use?

Cobblestones are pretty variable. Bricks, rocks, patterning, etc. I use a couple of differernt styles. Gluing lentils in patterns works pretty well. After dry, use spackle to fill in between. I also use cork like you can buy at the DIY for making pin up boards. It comes in sheets and I cut bricks and place them. I then use spackle between the bricks as filler. I've seen sidewalks that were concrete, poured in sections, and cobblestobnes or pavers. So it is pretty simple.

Another way is to use drywall. Peel the paper off and score the gypsum in your pattern. Or pour plaster into a form and do the same type of scoring to get your patterns.

I have used fine-grade Multiput. tt's pretty grainy in the initial  mixing stage. lay it over the cobblestone plasticard sheet (or individual pebbles if you are insanely motivated to do that) work it in the crevice and then rub off the exess so the stones protrude. when it dries it will look very authentic.

FSM this past month had a interesting article on using drywall for cobblestone roads.  Check it out

Yeah they did. I actually wasn't too clear on how they used the wire to imprint broken or crumbled cobblestones...

Yeah, zok they kinda weren't, but its drywall, and when you buy it-or better scrounge it from your basement or garage where its been sitting for a while, you usually have enough of it to mess around with.  So you could just experiment until you get it right...
