Ow! so thats why to guns appear too big fo the vehicule, sorry just never seen a model flamethrower on a vehicule before, most flamethrower are units weapons for burning crops in wars (like some african war use it to stave villegas and destroying them). I did saw a photo of a sherman that had a flamethrower in its barrell but I could belive that tank and groud vehicule had them install on them, must be for protecting for the flames.

In World War Ii, flamethrowers were used to clear out bunkers and other small fortified defenses. The US used them a lot in the Pacific theatre against dug in Japanese. There were a good number of tank types modified as flame throwers. There was also a flamethrower turret option for the M113 armored personnel carrier.

Yeah, Unfortunatly there is no know method of making fire in Dio or for model (real fire would just melt the plastic) But I do know how to make fake smoke, simlie use cotton for those first aid kits, and airbrush it red, yellow or/and orange for apeares of fire. Althought its not sutabul for this kit, its a flamethrower not a smokethrower (Yeah great idea suffecating your enemies Laugh [(-D])

Working on: Trumpeter SU-152 (1/35) Trumpeter E-10 (1/35) Heller Somua (1/35)

The flamethrowers are the two long gun like objects in the back of the track, note the one just forward on the number 89 in hte second picture. Using it in the context of this dio would mkae no sense based on where the ground figures are. Also, producing flames and smoke in a static setting is nearly impossible to do well, though I remember seeing one dio where GI's are using flames to clear out a bumker.

If I know the ways or techniques to improve on AI works, there's no reason I won't pass them on to him, as I will in the case of tracks and optic lenses. Anything is OK means that I usually like heavily-weathered armors, but lightly-weathered ones are also OK with me. There are old and new armors now and then. This one just happened to be an old workhorse.

The halftrack might have been in service for a long time, so it's getting rusty.

Not really a feasible explanation.  The crew of a vehicle spends much of their time not engaged in combat maintaining there vehicle so it won't look like that.  A piece of equipment that is rusty is one that doesn't function properly.  When your life depends on your equipment, you ensure it is maintained in good working order.

Some like it hot and some like it cold. For me, anything is OK.

That is the issue that we keep coming back to.  You don't really care how they look, so why do you even post here?  It is obviously not to improve your techniques and you don't demand that any of your builders improve.  I just don't get it....

Many thanks for more comments since my last reply! Some like it hot and some like it cold. For me, anything is OK. The halftrack might have been in service for a long time, so it's getting rusty.

Zokissima, yes it's Sd.Kfz.251/20 Ausf. D as you mentioned. After that I got another one, it's Sd.Kfz.251/6 C Command Vehicle released since 2004 but I've never seen it before. It comes with three soft plastic figures. And at the end of this month a new Sd.Kfz.251 with big Flak from AFV Club will hit Bangkok market, it looks real nice to me. Have you seen it?

Yeah, that would be the Sd.Kfz.251/20 Ausf.D UHU IR support vehicle.

Dio...well the vehicle is ok, I like heavily weathered vehicles, so I can appreciate it there. But the layout of the dio just doesn't really flow together at all.

Many thanks for your kind words, Eric! For me, anything AI built is mostly OK with me. Now I've got another interesting Hanomag from AFV Club. It comes with a big search light and the name "UHU". I'll have it built next as stand-alone model.

I like Art instructors work, he does a great job. I will agree with Ajlafleche about the chipping. At times, I think he goes a bit overboard. Again, it's personal taste.

Many thanks for all kind comments. I'm afraid ajlafleche is right. The two sets of figures don't go together very well in this dio. I made wrong choice of figures again! Have to be more careful next time. I hope the Panther G from Dragon goes together well with its Panzergrenadiers (LAH Division), that'll be the next dio. The ground may be hard so the tracks seem to float. Or maybe it's difficult to prepare the ground that will sink some parts of the tracks. This type of chipping has been trademark of Art Instructor, but it's not always the case. Depending on his diligence. When he was lazy the chipping was low - like this one :

I like the paint job for figures and ground work.  Hanomag looks like it is floating off of ground.  Perhaps it maybe just the way photo was taken.

I like the compressed suspension on the right front of th e hanomag and there's noice work on the camo patters. Faces look pretty good, too. But again, there are two completely unrelated scenes. The guys in the hanomag are standing tall and relaxed while the MG crew is sending fire downrange. Of course, they are also fully exposed to their targets. You'd think they'd at least drop behind the fence or the tree to get a modicum of cover. I'm not crazy about the level of chipping, to me, it looks like a derelict vehicle 10 years after the war. But that's my personal taste.

Diorama "Flamethrower Hanomag"

It's my pleasure to introduce yet another new page - a fourth consecutive new page in four consecutive weeks. And I have enough finished models to make a fifth new page next week. I hope I'm not presenting too much models. For me I never have enough of them, as long as space allows.

Diorama "Flamethrower Hanomag" using Dragon's Sd.Kfz.251/16 + Zvezda's German Half-Track Crew and Dragon's Panzergrenadiers LAH Division - by "Art Instructor" :
