You're right, kenny. That's exactly what I told Tuk when he delivered the dio. You may expect better results next time.

I know that the phrase "Feuer Frei!"  means "open fire", or literally "Fire freely".

I think the germans use it to essentially say "fire at will".

I've heard the word "Feuer" by itself without the Frei as well, although it is the flame type of fire.  It's used the same as in english, where fire means both to shoot and a burning flame.

Chances are the german is yelling "Feuer!".

to pronounce it, the "Feu-" part is a "Foy" sound, like the town in band of brothers. Like Toy with an F. the "-er" at the end makes an "ah" sound. So its like "Foy-ah".

I'm sure that this applies to rifled projectiles like guns, tanks, and arty.  However, I'm not 100% sure it is used for other types like mortars, torpedos, bombs etc.

Many thanks for your kind words, Mike!

Your military drills sound fun, may I ask where did it took place? What's the word "Fire!" in German?

I think it is something like "loess" or maybe that might be for a torpedo launch. I don't know, just ignore this. I'm going back to crawl under my rock.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

I like it, good job.

In my German reenacting unit, I was part of the mortar team. We have an 81 mm (which is whats in the diarama) and we have it rigged to fire actual dummy rounds. We had to learn all the basic commands in German. Once all the rounds were fired, we had to become infantry. It was very fun. The only think I see (or dont see) is the sidearms which was required for a motar team. Usually it was a P-38.

Thanks for sharing

Mike
