Iraq dio
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 12:02 PM

I’m getting ready to start my Iraq dio for the AAV I just finished. I want to have a large 2 story shopping center with roll up security doors like these...

Anybody have a good way to pull this off. I was also thinking about making some scissor folding security gates that are also used by shop owners to secure the store fronts, so I you have any idea of how I could build these as well that would be helpful.

Other items

I also need to know the dimensions I should use for roads, side walks, etc.

Also is there a tool for model builders that has the 1/35th conversion on it b/c my architects scale does not have 1:35 on it so I need a way to measure accurately for my 1:35th scale buildings.

Thanks guys.

Here is a great scale calculator program link: http://www.mksmc.co.uk/hintsandtips/scale_calculator.htm

For making the roll up garage-style shop doors, check out sheet plastic from Plastruct or Evergreen.  They have multiple styles of siding and roofing materials that would work as the door sections.

For scale widths of roads, doors, windows, etc, just use the calculator and input the actual widths to get the scale measurements.  For example a standard street lane is about 10 feet wide.  In 1/35 scale, it equals about 87 millimeters.

If you know the original dimension, divide by 35 or multiply by .0286

Well, you can use the 3/8" = 1'-0" scale if you are willing to tolerate that being 1/32 instead of 1/35 scale.  Otherwise, you'll need some decimal sort of scale, like as not.

You may need to specify a bit more on the "where" or "over there" you'd like to represent.  Probably not that many places with a 3-0 side walk on either side of a 13' single-lane or 26' double-lane road.
