Decided To Make A Dio
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, July 29, 2007 10:52 PM

Firsta  little back ground. I'm just recently back into "modeling" after many years. I've never been a serious modeler. Just assembled a few cars and enjoyed that. I stumbled into this site looking for airbrush reviews. I discovered dios and fell in love. I never knew they even existed or that you guys took this hobby SO far with detail. Went out and got a FSM mag form the store and just so happen it was the airbrush learning lesson, aswel as teaching weathering/washes which was quite perfect.

Anyway, I'll be done with my non serious '67 Chevelle SS tonight. Plan on doing a P-40WH with a  more serious attitude and then move on to a small dio. I'll be gathering info/sketching/and planning while building the P-40

I am wanting to start very small with this idea and keep it simple to just learn the basics. I understand the concept of the dios telling a story. I enjoy that. However I have an idea for a 1 or 2 man dio(depending on timeset) that would involve just them alone.

I'm wanting to create a sniper dio. I see in my head a small hill riding from the frame. A tree in the rear left corner with shrubs nearby. Knee to waist high grass/straw. Sniper and spotter hidden amongst the foilage....just waiting.....are they gathering intel? protecting the advancing SF team? or calling in an airstrike?

I want to bring the fealing of being isolated to the mind of the viewer.  It's a fealing I've always loved when watching movies of people that are holed up and defending/fighting. A very common fealing in zombie and military movies. The fealing of being alive with no one else nearby to help you if they find out where your at. It's a rush

I'm thinking newer army 2000+ and maybe a M21 on a tripod, and spotter with binocs

If anyone has any input, links to proper soilders/weapons, scene ideas please let me know

My suggestion - go to http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums and check out their "strictly photos" forum for scene ideas and the "gear & equipment" forum for any technical questions you might have.  What country's troops are you wanting to model?  I'm finding it difficult to locate modern US troops in the right gear - not many people making MOLLE-wearing figs yet.  Dragon/DML had a great-looking set of US snipers with the M40, M21, and Barrett (M82?) .50BMG.  I didn't ever build one up, so I can't tell ya how they look - but I love most of their fig sets, so I'd buy it with confidence.
