Another Gunpla Diorama - WIP
Posted by dj898 on Thursday, December 20, 2007 8:23 PM
This is another 1/144 scale Gunpla diorama idea I'm toying with at the moment.
Last month I bought a pair of N scale Faller structure kits that were on sale and that gave me an idea of street battle between Earth Federation Forces and Zeon Forces...

The concept is more of stand off between three mecha on one of European street~
The street itself is not decided yet as I'm still debating whether to base on our local street or ones in the generic European city...

The structure themselves are 1/160 scale but I think they work well with 1/144 scale mecha though I will have to be careful when it comes to the figure as I believe N scale figures may turned out to be too small for the scene... And same goes for the other street accessories like street lamps, vehicles, and etc.

I like where your going with this. I don't think the scale is too far off. I would like to see how the street lights and cars would look.

Thanks~

I've taken few pictures of our local street which has strong colonial influence on their appearance... The issue I'm finding is the amount of details or shall I say the lack of details to be shown since this is 1/144 scale, not 1/35 or 1/48 hence the visible details  should be kept at minimum to convey the scale effect.

I also bought a N scale vehicle from local railway model shop and to my disappointment it has far less details than I would've like... Pretty barren with not much details at all - it's basically a plastic shell with open bottom and wheels attached at four corners~ -__-;;

Also the street scenery accessories available from the railway model shop leave much to be desired...

Guess time to investigate what others did for 1/144 scale diorama~

Dont worry  you can find better N scale stuff. I know the cars your talking about and I know you can find way better ones. As for street details what are you looking for? Telephone poles and street signs? You can maybe print them and cut them out. You may need to spend a bit more money to get the nicer stuff but a lot of it is really well detailed.

I have an N scale layout in progress right now and I bought some 1/144 tanks to use in it. Ive been doing a few dios with them also, its fun working in such a small scale I think.

My real name is Cam. Interest: anything 1/72, right now mostly sci-fi and modern In progress: 1/72 Sci-fi diorama (link in my web) 1/72 Leopard 2A5 1/72 APC Conversion to a MEGA DESTROYER

I agree that working at 1/144 and/or 1/160 means you don't have to deal with too much of details since at that scale it's hard to see anyway... ^ ^
