Turok, Son of Stone W.I.P. (update 31 January)
I'm working on a diorama based on the old comic book series, Turok Son of Stone for the Armorama sci-fi fantasy campaign. I previously posted a few shots of the raptors and base. The raptors are now painted, the horse has his body color blocked in as do Turok and Andar, a new addition since the first postings. Scientist are now very sure raptors had feathers and some illustrations have them looking more like penguins and parrot than killer lizards. Many also believe dinosaurs are the ancestors of today's birds. I used these two concepts to give a scheme to the "honkers," as Turok would have called them. Since the terrain imagined here is open plains, the scheme is similar to what you might see on an animal in Africa.
The charging female has her crest feathers extended in an attack display.
The wounded female's crest has been pulled back in a neutral position.
Note, the crouching male has no crest. Instead, as with many birds today, he has a bright red display patch at the back of his head extending down over his shoulders. The was done by applying a product, no longer available, called "Hair-Coat" and painting it vermillion.

The overall layout. The rocks and trees have only a base coat of gray at this point.
