Has anyone done the Hulk + M1 Scene Dio?
Posted by Dwight Ta-ala on Sunday, November 9, 2003 11:59 PM
I have read a couple of months back in a thread that guys were talking about doing a dio of the scene in the latest Hulk movie where Hulk smashed 3 M1s. Is anyone doing it? Or has anyone done it?

Yesterday I bought a cheap poseable Hulk figure for about 50 cents and the size is just right for a 1/35 scale dio. The figure itself needs a lot of surgical operation but at least the head and the basic body form is already OK. I am planning to do this dio probably this Christmas so if anybody has done this one, I would appreciate any tip whatsover.

I also read that the M1s used were constructed using the chassis or lower hull of a Centurion? (I am not sure.) but I guess using an exact M1 tank would be acceptable.

Do it, Dwight!
I love that movie, and in particular that sequence.
You're right about the Centurion-based M1 mock-ups, but I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm looking forward to seeing your diorama, Dwight!

HEY,
Use the Tamiya M1-A1 Abrams. I am building that right now and the fit for the parts is imaculate. Good luck and post pics when your done.

J-Hulk: Might as well try it. Been looking at the scene on DVD since Sunday and my 5 year old kid is already complaining about me taking so much out of her viewing time.

Dubix: I would love to use Tamiya. However, the tank might need some real damage (not sure yet) so I would rather go for a Dragon M1A1. It costs only about 30% of the Tamiya M1.

Now I have my hands full.

A ruin dio for the Sturmtiger.
A winter dio for the M4A3 105.
And this one.
Plus three kits unbuilt. Where will I get the time?

Talk about the hunters becoming the hunted! That was a cool scene with lots of potential modeling possiblities. Good luck and keep us informed.Wink [;)]

Build away! I can't wait to see the results. I liked that movie and I think pretty much anything action-oriented would make a good movie diorama. :)

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I am now on the planning stage. Already got the Hulk figure and the Dragon M1A2. Still thinking of the best position.

Hey Dwight, which Hulk figure do you have?
I was disappointed with all the figures released for the film. None of them were very good or accurate sculpts. I haven't seen any indications in the Japanese garage kit market for any kits, either. Too bad! What a great subject...

J-hulk,

I think it is a cheap imitation. The face is OK but the body is a bit smaller than that compared to the movie.

Actually my problem is the specific postions. If I make a dio where Hulk has already detached the turret of the M1 and has raised it, I need to detail the interior of the hull as well as that basket thing below the turret. I need positions that require less modifications on the Dragon Model.

How about the big swing? You could model the trax flying off, which would be quite interesting. Or the scene where he bends the barrel back into the cupola? So many great scenes in that sequence!

The Hulk DVD goes on sale next week here in Japan, and if you reserve a "Special Edition" (which, of course, I did!) you get a pretty cool Hulk figure with it. I'll post a pic once I get it.

J-Hulk:

That would be one of the best options. Thanks.

Wish I could proceed with the work completely. Still stuck with a lot of job-related work. I just can't wait for the Christmas break so that I can get things done.

I'll keep you posted.

Wow, he did? Please show us pics. I am halfway done with mine. But I lost the torso of my Hulk. My 2 year old kid played with it so...

Whoever ends up finishing this one, I can't wait to see it. Dwight, are you planing to use three full 1/35 tanks, or just one, where the hulk is swinging it?
