4th North Carolina Infantry at Mrs. Alsop's House - May 19, 1864

I am putting together a small vignette that will depict two soldiers of the 4th North Carolina Inf. (Ramseur's Brigade) during the closing stages of the Spotsylvania battle, May 19, 1864.  The 4th North Carolina penetrated the Union lines farther than any other Confederate unit during the battle and paid for it with the highest casualties.

The figures are both white metal (lead/alloy) from Shenandoah Miniatures in 54mm and will be displayed while advancing and firing from Mrs. Alsop's vegetable garden.  I have started the shading process on this figure but he has quite a way to go before he's finished.  I will update this thread occasionally with my progress.

Thanks,

razorboy

I started work on figure number two this morning.  He has a long way to go too but this should give you an idea of his uniform combination.

Outstanding work. But aren't they a little clean for Johnny Rebs? I read in your post that they have a long way to go, it can't be that far, they're looking good.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Looking quite good so far. You might want to tone down the sky blue on the canteen and trousers. The color was more of a gray blue. Andrea's old Union bkue is spot on and MM WWII naval color intermediate blue #4744 is very close, too. (I did ACW reenacting for four years and checked those colors against my uniform.)

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Actually AJ, that color for the canteen is pretty decent. I do reenacting and my canteen cover is pretty much the same  just a little darker.  Sky blue covers were common as captured Federal gear.    I have seen a bit of everything out on the field though.

Yeah I've seen lots of different shades of "Yankee" britches too.  I will lighten these some more during the ongoing shading process but they wont be as light as the powder blue lots of older movies want to put a soldier of that time in.  Like I said initially, far from done yet.
