I've built two if them. One years ago when it first came out & one earlier this year when it was re-issued. The fit of the cockpit isn't as positive as most modern kits, but I don't recall any problem that CA couldn't solve.

Absolutely, you've gotten good advice from Rick and Charles...it seems like every Hasegawa kit has a trick somewhere...Let us know how she turns out!
Cheers,Alex
Nice mode! Could you share information about this scheme (camouflage patterns, colors, decals, please? I received the Hasegawa 1/48 kit as a gift but it has a boring overall gray scheme

I've been looking for a sheet of markings that place the aircraft in the CBI theater in early 1942 (fighting against the AVG). In my search, I've passed up quite a few nice sheets of colorful Ki-27s that served elsewhere.
Try a Google Image sarch:

I've built that kit also, the cockpit location is a bit vague as you've noticed. But it does build up to a nice looking plane. I've built mine as one in the Manchukuo service if you are looking for something unusual. It's overall gray, but the Kanji characters and the Manchukuo markings makes it standout a bit.
if interested, I have a writeup of the actual build on this page http://waihobbies.wkhc.net/Nateki27.html. The decals came with the Hasegawa kit in one of it's many boxings. But I've also seen it in aftermarket decals.
