Japanese brown
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 24, 2003 9:45 AM
Hi all

About to build a Nell in 1:72 - anyone any idea what colour brown should be in the green and brown camo? Tried IPMS, but it wasn't too specific. Should it be reddy brown or light earth?

Any help would be appreciated, especially with Humbrol reference numbers.

Cheers

An old chart I have says the color is FS10076. This is the same color that is paiinted on the props. I believe Aeromaster or Polyscale used to make this color. I'm not sure if anyone else did.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

IPMS Stockholm lists that brown as FS 20117 with the comment - used on Nell, Betty, and Claude. Just in case you do not have a copy of the FS color fan deck or color chips, it is a medium reddish brown, not unlike the brown primer used later on props and spinners but not as red.

If you can't find FS 20117, use the red-brown primer. Most paint manufacturers offer this. Close enough for government work!Wink [;)]
