Hopefully, Trumpeter will correct the errors of its 32nd scale Hun when they scale it down to 1/48th and 1/72nd.

Well I am now completed F-100 in 1:72 scale informed. As we all know you can never have enough model kits in the closet, so I think I am going to purchase a few that people have contacted me about and I am going to probably get the Trupeter kit when it comes out. Thank you everyone for your input, I figure if I have 4 kits I can play with one, and combine the other three (kit bash) along with some resin to get a great model. I am sure that my F-107 that I am working on now will be jealous!

Tamiya also reboxed the Italeri kit.  I got mine on ebay, but it had to come all the way from Taiwan.  Excellent kit, excellent kit!!!  The landing gear doors are small and difficult to install, however.
One good hour working on a model erases 8 bad hours at work!!

The ESCI kit for the F-100D is supposed to "be the best" for 1:72, but has been out of production for many years, and very hard to find. The Hasegawa kit has also been out of production for many years. I have the Hase. kit. It's fairly primative. Basic shape is good. No wheel well or cockpit detail of any sort. Your best bet is to use a resin cockpit (I think Aires does one). If you can wait a few more months, Trumpeter is supposed to release a totally new-tooled 1:72 F-100D some time in the first few months of 2009.  Frank

The Hasegawa kit came out sometime after 1975 and was called the best F-100 kit to date.

I seem to recall making a 1/72 F-100 from a FROG kit way back in the early 1970s. Would this have been the Hasegawa kit in disguise? They did a lot of mould-sharing in those days (Hasegawa kits in FROG boxes, not the other way round).  If so, barely worth 26 cents, let alone 26 dollars.

Cheers,

Chris.

My local Hobby Store had those PM Model F-100C kits for $7 [AUS] . However I was very disappointed with the kit . The plastic is a little on the soft side , with lot's of scratches all over the fuselage halves and wings . The raised detail is almost invisible , the landing gear struts are missing the pins to attatch the wheels . The worst part is the canopy , It's not very clear and scratched , I tried polishing the canopy with some tooth paste , I then dipped it in some future . It only improved slightly , so after glueing the fuselage and wings together , puttied and sanded the joins , the kit went into the "build later" pile . The 1/72 Hasegawa F-100D kit is available here in sydney but the hobby store is asking around $26 , to expensive for me .

                                           Kind regards John

I have built the Italeri F-100D. It's quite a nice decent kit. I found the cockpit and landing gear details to be quite good. Fitting and surface panel lines(recession) are good too. Unless you demand very high details, this is a fine (or at least highly acceptable) kit, at least from my standards.

Thank you everyone for the searching, I was going to try to avoid going over to Europe to order a model, however I just might have to do that.

Hi all,

I know of somebody with a couple of AMT F-100Fs for sale. I don't know the price, but I've dealt with him in the past. You can PM me if you're interested and I can put you in touch with him.

The Hasegawa F-100D is pretty old and not up to the standards set by the Italeri/Revell/ESCI kit(s).

I think I figured out what Revell was thinking. I saw a photo of a parked D and the blackout curtain frame was pulled up so it looked just like what Revell has. Still looks stupid.

Revell's F-100C is bigger than 1/72 in length and smaller than 1/72 in wingspan, or vice-versa (memory's gone!). The best way to get a C in 1/72 is to start with one of the D kits and use either an Obscureco conversion set or Paul Boyer's DIY article in FSM from a few years ago.

Cheers!

Ben

Unfortunately, either Italeri or R-G messed up the canopy and added a frame to the single seat F-100D canopy (like the correct one in the two-seat F-100F canopy) when they "updated" the mould. Where this kind of stuff comes from I'll never understand!

For F-100D's in 1/72, Italeri , ESCI, Revell Germany, and Hasegawa have all boxed them in the past.  AMT/ERTL did a nice F-100F.

Has anyone heard anything about a possible Trumpeter release, Stevens shows an item number but the price says TBA and there is nothing on the Trumpeter Website

Squadron shows a 1/72 F-100C that is temporarily out of stock but it does seem to exist.
