Is there a Beech King Air 200 kit?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 24, 2003 10:48 PM
I saw a very interesting maritime patrol version (as used by Fisheries and Oceans Canada) of this plane this morning in "Flightpath", and I was wondering if such a kit is available?

There is a display model in 1/32, but it is already built and quite pricey...

On the same vein, does anybody have pictures of this plane? I looked around and found nothing...

Hi Pat,

We had two C-12's in our Unit at Bragg in '79, here is our RC-12:

I'd sure like to find a kit of the "200" also, thanks for the post!

Found the link to the built model I was talking about:

Those RC-12 would also make a great, and unusual, model subject!

Thanks Pat,

I've seen the "200" and different variations of the wooden display on E-Bay.... I agree... "pricey"!

Go on "Google", Images, and enter "king air200"... there's several dedicated sites which I haven't looked all the way through, but you may be able to find some good references of the version you're looking for.

Pat:
Transport Canada also uses these for airport/airways inspections and flight checking of navaids (have some hours in them myself). The colour scheme is the same standard Federal paint job except the department name in your case would be 'Fish & Ships' in both languages.
If you go up the road to Ottawa airport you will find the Transport aircraft parked there near the flying club. Ask in the hangar and I'm sure you can arrange a tour.
Good luck,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

There's no reference better than seeing the real thing, thanks! Also, do you happen to know the official Canadian designation for that aircraft?

Take care,
Frank

Big Pat & Oldhooker,
I could be mistaken, but I recall there was a 72nd vac-form kit of the King Air that came out several years ago. I'll try retrieving some of my catalogues and get back to you.

Thanks for the Info Bruce!

Next time I'm near Ottawa, I'll go have a quick look-see! Just asking the guy for a tour? I honestly never thought of that one! Must have been too simple! Thanks!

Allan, I will keep my fingers crossed! Never did a Vac formed kit before... A good reason to try, then!

Frank:
The civilian Government designation is just simply King Air 200.

Pat:
I'm in Edmonton but I'll Email a buddy of mine who would know who to talk to regarding a tour. Give me a couple of days with that.

I remember a few years back one of our Inspectors retired and we tried to find a kit to make a model for her; couldn't, so we settled for a painting by a local artist.

Regards,
Bruce

Big Pat & Oldhooker,

Found it. Several years ago Hannants listed a 72nd vac-form kit of the Beech Super King Air by Rareplane under item #RP04005. Am not sure if its still available though. But it is worth a try.

I hope you find this one, guys. I cant wait to see your finished kits.

No bucks, no Buck Rogers
