Wright Flyer

I am building monogram's Wright Flyer. I need to know is there any way to make the wood struts look like real wood. I have been painting them in a flat brown, but I am not getting the results I want.

The current issue of FSM has a good article on the flyer. Try adding red and blue a little at a time to the flat brown to darken the color.

The illusion of wood is more about texture than color. Try adding subtle grain and color variations. Hopefully the scale is large enough for this. Good luck!
