Trumpeter 1/32 P-38L news
Posted by J-Hulk on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 7:54 AM
Hiya, folks!
Just picked up the latest issue of Model Art magazine, and they had some info on Trumpeter's 1/32 P-38L release, along with some cool test shots of the kit on the sprues.

Release is slated for the beginning of Spring. The pix show 8 sprues, 1 sprue of clear parts, rubber tires, and three small sprues of unidentifiable black parts.

From the pix it's evident that all control surfaces are separate. Also included are two bombs and two drop tanks.

Looks good so far!Big Smile [:D]

It's on my list too, Frank!
Ever since I struggled to cobble together Revell's old P-38J a million years ago, I7ve yearned for a decent 1/32 Lightning.
And shortly we shall have it!

Anyone have any idea where to get info on Trumpter's new kits? Their website hasn't been updated in 6 months so there is nothing on the P-38. I'd love to find the source that these distrubutors are using.

BTW, greatmodels.com is taking pre-orders on this kit.

Dana, I don't see anything on the web either. The latest news I see is in the Japanese hobby mags, such as Model Art, where I found this P-38 info.

Do they include the additional gun packs as well?? I think the L model could be outfitted with up to 12 .50 calibers, couldn't they???

Twelve .50 cals???? Wow! Never heard of that one. I didn't see it in the D&S book I have on the Lightning. Has anyone heard of this? A 38 with twelve .50s would make an awesome model not to mention a deadly plane!

May be some confusion there. I heard my Dad talk of the A-20 and B-25 gun nose conversions but never said they experimented with upgunning a P-38. He was in the 5th AAF and was in the 81st Air Depot in Australia in 42 and 43.

More good news from Trumpeter. They are trying to win our hearts one kit at a time.

I think it's working.

I'll second that, I can't wait to be able to afford some of them. Hopefully someday. Their prices seam very competitive and very resonable for the larger scales. Now if only they would do a TBM/TBD Avenger, or how about an up to date SBD, or even a Devestator or Bearcat? How about a P-40... the list never ends does it?

Trumpeter is releasing a 1/32 avenger sometime in the (hopefully) near future. Their 1/32 P-40 should be hitting stores this week.

Hmm....can't find my source on that. It's not in my books, so it must've been an online source from back when I was doing weapons research for a WWII flight sim I play....

Jeeves,

I'll "eat crow"! But it will be in a Gumbo! I found the picture and caption of a P-38 with 8 .50 cals in the nose and two twin .50 gun pods, one under each wing! It's in Squadron Signal's P-38 In Action book # 1109 on page 43. I can't believe I missed it before. That would make an interesting conversion. Only with all those fifties in the nose there wasn't any room for much ammo! Probably why it didn't happen. Just goes to show you that you learn something every day! Thanks!
