hi keyworth.

quote,

Just grab a shade of olive or dark green and you can't go wrong, since a great many of the Russian green colors were improvised at times.

The colours of soviet a/c in WW2 tended to be in whatever they were delivered in if Lend/Lease or the standard Temperate Dark Green/Dark Earth/Duck Egg whatever.
The quality of the paint was not good and tended to fade/peel/chip/stain very easily.
Unit markings were not usualy carried but some a/c carried patriotic slogans and/or dedications eg From the comrades of 301 plastic coat hanger factory!
If all else fails then paint it white! You wont be wrong there.

keith-a HI, I thought I had a pik of an IL2 that wasn't winter washed but I haven't been able to locate it. I think it was B&W any way. You might want to check out Testor's Model-Master 2122 topside green 2123 underside blue and 2124 earth brown. www.squadron.com has color chips of the Testor and Humbrol and I think the Humbrol do look to RAF. Wish I could be more help. GOOD LUCK . Bob

Just got an Airfix Stormovic, but I'm pretty sure the colours are wrong. They are listed as Humbrol 29 Dark Earth, 30 Dark Green and 23 Duck Egg Blue - basically, Battle of Britain RAF livery. Surely wrong???

Anyway, I know the blue for the undersurfaces, but has anyone any ideas for the top colours? There are no unit details, it is simply given as 1943 - it has a yellow rudder and 3 thin white fuselage bands. Any suggestions on these colours would be greatly appreciated, as the internet has gleaned no results so far.

Many thanks.
