1/48DML kits available
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, November 27, 2003 6:32 PM
The Dragon Me 262 Mistel is finally available, and DML has re-released the Ta 152H-1 (high-aspect-ratio wing) with engine & photo-etch. I ordered mine today. It seems that the Trimaster Me 262 (with white metal & P.E.) is still available from Squadron for $30 ! I have one of these (the plastic & molding quality is far superior to the DML/Dragon releases), with 2 more on order. While these take more care to assemble than Tamiya & Hasegawa kits, they are truly "Diamonds in the Rough." If you want a Trimaster Me 262 or a DML Ta 152, I would suggest getting them soon. I don't know how long they'll be available.

Pix,
Is the Ta 152 H-1 engine resin or plastic ? Also is the
fit of the Trimaster Me 262 better than the DML kit ? Would you recom-
mend a Trimaster before a DML Me262 ? Thanks for the help.

Fuzzy - the engine is plastic, and it is very highly detailed. Its made from 35 parts, excluding engine bearers & canon.
The fit of the 262 appears to be about the same. In other words, careful assembly & dry fitting is necessary. I would definately recommend the Trimaster kit. White metal cannons, nose weight, and 2 frets of p.e. And for $30, it can't be beat. The quality of the moldings and the plastic are superb. The panel lines are consistent & subtle. With a wash, it won't look like a jigsaw puzzle.

Chris - I ordered the Mistel & Ta 152 from Great Models. THe Mistel was $31.20, and the Ta 152 was $24. Both bargains, as far as I'm concerned.

John - Unlike the Italeri kit, you get the engine, which I'm sure you know is visible from the open wheelwells. The only problem is finding decals for this kit. The DML decals that I've used have yellowed with time. Aftermarket FW 190D stencil decals will work, but getting info on the net for individual aircraft is scant. Jeff Ethell did a Monogram (I believe) book, which is OOP. All I've found are profiles, which tell nothing about the wing camo.

I'm glad to see some interest in these kits. The Trimaster/DML/Dragon kits are my favorites, above Hasegawa & Tamiya.

Yes, John, I got it & I have it saved. I'm talking about individual aircraft. Consistency among camo patterns was not paramount in the late war years. I've seen Ta 152 wings in RLM 75/81, 81/83, and 81/82. I just want to have the appropriate wing colors, as they weren't necessarily the same as the ones on the fuselage.

DML has also re-released the HE-162 Salamander and 2 versions of the Horten wing as well as the Bachem Natter. I recently bought the Tamiya 262 recently making my first leap from 1/72 to 1/48-beaucoup detail! Don't think the Tamiya kit is as good as that Trimaster one.

The DML Ju-88 A-4 (?) and C are still avaliable form Monogram as part of the Pro-Modeler range. I recently got the nightfighter C and think it's a pretty nice kit. Unfortunately I haven't gotten very far on it though. Anyone have any thoughts on this kit?

I've built 2 A-4s, 188, & Mistel S2. There are no locating pins for the fuselage, use care aligning it. Enclosing the cockpit in the nose section is tricky. Use care. I would recommend gluing the wingtips to the upper & lower wings first, add the ailerons next, then join the wing halves. You'll need to enlarge the holes for the horizontal stabs. Elbow grease is needed when joining the forward fuselage & wings. Those are the areas that I recall most about building that kit. When finished, she's a beauty. Good luck, & I hope this helps.

By the way, the Trimaster kits are still available from Squadron for $29.99. I got 2 more today, and they're listed in their ad in the current issue of FSM. If you've always wanted a Trimaster kit, this may be your only chance.
