B-52Y

i personaly think the b-52 has a beauty all in itself and is a marvel of modern engineering, but i also think all aircraft of every kind has a beauty and individuality (personality) if you will. guess thats why i have a problem picking a favorite.

Some time back in the mid to late 70's Squadron produced a conversion kit for the Monogram kit - Saw one on eBay a couple of months ago - was going for what I thought was big bucks unfortunatly

I dunno... the B-52 seems like the kind of plane that mother nature probably wouldn't let off the ground (if she had her way). it's too big and lumbering... like a B-29's older brother on steroids, but not as much steroids as uncle B-36) of course, i'm one to talk... i love seeing them B-17s.

And another thing, how come we don't get the History Chanel in the philippines, damnit!

Inpw1 is correct about the buff thing. For public consumption the last F was 'fellow' but anybody who worked on theB-52 the F%#@#$% was the correct and affectionate term for it.

i think i saw the same show, and they did say that the first three yb-52's were delivered with a tandem cockpit configuration. As i recall Hap Arnold didnt like it and had it changed preproduction, but they had the first three almost complete so they got delivered with the tandem cockpit.

as for the conversion i dont know about that one.

and the buff thin....i believe it is an acronym for Big Ugly Fat ?@#$&%
could be wrong about that one though. Its always what i believe it stood for. if i am wrong someone correct me please.

why is it called the buff???

I dunno if anyone makes a conversion, I imagine there's one out there somewhere. (Gotta be!) But I do know that there's been a fella or two who's built an early BUFF. I've seen one at a show and I also seem to recall there being one on the cover of an IPMS Update or Quarterly (Convention Issue), but I dunno what the year would be. (or if I'm just hallucinating )

And actually, if I'm not mistaken, I think that FSM had an article in the past which was either devoted to or included an XB-52 or YB-52. Could be mistaken...

I remember seeing a conversion set for a YB-52 in 1/72 a few years ago. I can't remember who made it, or if its still available, but there was one made.

Not familar with that one Littlemoe. I don't scrach build but would be very interested in any info also on this model B52.
