Boy, I wasn't prepared for the huge gap between the fuselage and the wings when I attached them last night. Whats the deal with the mold? Figured they would have corrected it by now. Other than that, it is an easy build so far, certainly not a fit like a Tamiya but good. Detail in the cockpit was nice, again though, can't see much of it. That is a hoot, spend all the time detailing the cockpit and you really never see it. That is a pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, will prime with silver tonight. What did work nice was the technique I picked up here on the board a while back. I masked both sides of the gap, to a couple of mm, filled it with squadron putty and let it dry overnight. I took the masking off this morning and the only sanding I had was over the gap, the adjacent plastic was clean which I normally hate having to sand it to get it smooth. Nice technique. Look forward to finishing this so I can get back to the Hornet I was working on. Took a break from the tediousness of that Trumpeter kit, wanted a build I could finish in short order. I have the dubious task of painting all of those bombers for the Doolittle raid. Hope all had a great holiday!

Hey, before you finish, Meteor has a folded wing resin set for this model. Comes out very nice.

One of the first things I do when starting an unfamiliar kit is to dry fit the fuselage & wings. If it looks like it will be a problem, or if there is detail at the wingroot that may be destroyed by sanding (like an FW 190), I'll attach the upper wing halves to the fuselage first. Sometimes I may have to cut off the locator pins on the lower wing when I go to attach it, but I avoid getting gaps. I use the instructions as a part location sheet, rather than an assembly sequence.
Try the dry fit on your next kit - it may save headaches & harsh words later. Good luck !

I've built two of the Hasegawa 1/48 Kate kits and the fit of the wing to fuselage was excellent. They were both from the initial release so maybe the mold has gotten out of whack since then. I do agree with pixilater that dry fitting major components on any kit is a real good idea.
