Spitfire Vb finished.

hi everyone,

I just finished my latest spit. It's for my friends father-in-law who served with 126sqn RAF in Malta in 1942. The idea was to give him a model of one of the spits he worked on during the war. Finding the kit was easy enough,a Tamiya 1/48 mark Vb-it's a great kit and went together without any problems. The paint scheme and markings needed a little research though. Eventually, I tracked down a decal sheet from Aeromaster called defenders of Malta and a couple of pics of the aircraft I was building(BR471). The rest of the project fell into place after that. I had a great time building this kit and it was all the more special because it was for a WWII vet. It'll be displayed inside a glass case and presented to him on Christmas day. Let's hope he likes it...!

I took a look in Ron's gallery, and I like your Spitfire ! There's just something about the middlestone & dark earth that appeals to me.
What a guy ! Giving a great build like that to a vet. Your heart & your hands are in the right place. I am sure the vet will be honored to have such a model. The true spirit of Christmas !

Woody, how the heck did you post that picture? I'm mighty pleased you did! I tried for ages and it just did'nt work for me Banged Head [banghead]

To answer your question, I used streched sprue for the wire, I know lot's of folks who can do this with little effort-but it takes me hours to get it right! Hence why I do more jets than warbirds! Although this one has certainly made want to do more. Tongue [:P]

My father and I are both from England. British aircraft are my favorite Your Spit looks great. Now where is that Hasegawa Vb that I had GREAT JOB

That's a fine looking spitfire you've got there! the wash on the panel lines look very nice... Uhm... how do you mix it (need some help - will be attempting my first wash in a few days)? Big Smile [:D]

You know, i've offered to build kits for presents (i get to have fun and knock a name off my christmas list!), but alas, no one among my family or friends are interested in having one... both of my grandfathers were doctors during the war, so they were more interested in the people than the machines... Anyway, you did a terriffic job, Darren! Smile [:)]

Thats a fine looking Spit, indeed, Darren. Im not really a big fun of WW2 aircraft, but I know when to appreciate great models. Very good job, my friend. Cool [8D]
