Lee Tree can you give me an estimate on how wide the spacer is?

Decal strips sounds like the way to go. A few years back I painted the yellow outline on the canopy of Monograms F-84 F. I used a toothpick to clean up anything out of the "lines" while the paint was tacky. Came out pretty good. I'll have to figure out how to post pictures one of these days.

Clear Left!

Thanks for the input Lee Tree! You are correct! I got an e-mail from Paul D. Boyer, Senior Editor, FineScale Modeler and he said:

"Randy cut thin strips from solid yellow and stripe yellow decals and laid
them carefully around the outline of the windscreen panels. For the curved lines, he traced the shape with pencil on paper, then cut that into a guide, and used it to cut the shape from the yellow decal sheet. Check with hobby shops for solid and stripe decal material."

Thank you both very much for your help in this matter!

T-bone,
That's a bloody good question!!
I've read an article where a guy said he used a couple of no.11 E-xacto blades taped together (with a small spacer in between) to cut even lines out of yellow decal film. You can even do curves.
If you use decal solvent you can make the joins just about disappear. I've used this method for canopies before, but for solid colors on WWll canopies, not the yellow strip on jets. Worked just fine for me.

Canopy detail question

In the July 2003 FSM (volume 21, No. 6) workbench review article on pgs. 71-72 about the Hasegawa F-8E Crusader, the canopy has a fine yellow line outlining the windscreen and an overall black/yellow paint scheme. How did the author/modeller do this precise fine yellow line around the canopy? Thanks!
