P-38J landing gear bay (wheel wells)

Its a Dragon 1/72 P-38J.
The wheel wells leave gaps when fitted, in the section vertical to the boom length. (the curvature of the bay is too small in radius compared with that of the boom) In parallel there is tight fit.
is this normal I mean did actual wells had this or it is a matter of poor fit? I just can cover this with plasticard or copper plate,( my new addicytion used to constact a PE like cockpit set for a Frog kit from scratch.. )

poor fit, just cover it.
