My sister sent it to me. I don't know where she got it from, however she works I.T. at OU and gets cool OU stuff in the e-mail all the time.

Speed brakes are also up during com. out launchs to indicate a problem that needs attention, or a fly-by to let his/her crew chief know something will need attention when he/she gets back to his/her spot.

Hey wroper11 A bunch of people here in the newsroom want the 4-1-1 on your sig tag. Where, who, when etc. Don't think I will get to cover the sugar bowl. Besides, I really want to go to the Orange bowl next year. Got friends in Little Havana I would love to drop in on. Not to mention, we need to pay back Miami a little Wink [;)]

MikeV, which F-15E markings are you doing and are you doing a particular aircraft? I'm working on a 1/72 F-15E using Two Bobs decals for Seymore Johnson and modifying them to match the plane I took refuge from the sun under at a recent airshow. Funny, the Two Bobs decals have yellow band on vertical tails while the two at the airshow had blue there.

I haven't really decided which decals I want to use yet ,but I do like the "Tiger Meet" ones on the 366th FW - 391st FS out of Mountain Home AFB in Idaho.
Like this guy did on this 1/32 Tamiya F-15E here: http://www.naritafamily.com/howto/photo_frame.htm.

I would imagine the ones that came with the kit are the usual Revell junk right, or has Revell finally put some good ones in with the kit?

On the F-15Cs at Langley, they used to deploy the brake during landing. I also helped do some launch assists one TDY and they would deploy the brake during the run up to make sure it worked.

The air brakes are also used for combat maneuvering. So, it is possible to see the air brake deployed while in flight, but not for landing.

I, also, always build mine with the brake in the closed position. Makes it easier to paint!!

There are four different squadrons at Seymore Johnson and each has a different tail strip color so go ahead and paint yours the color you seen at the air show and you'll still be right.

Thanks for the info Charles. Now you have my curiosity as to what "words of wisdom" these pilots and WSO's have painted under that airbrake. Big Smile [:D]

The speedbrake on the F-15 is normally closed on the ground unless some maintenance is being conducted, and if you model it up it has a red safety device installed on the piston to keep it from closing. On a few aircraft there are some intresting things painted underneath the speedbrake, usually not for public consumption.

Thanks Flanker.

That's what I thought also. Isn't it funny how they picture these aircraft on the box they come in? Big Smile [:D]

F-15E airbrake

I'm building the Revell 1/48 F-15E and was wondering about the air brake position for this model. On the box the air brake is shown up but I don't think this is the position that a parked F-15E would have it in correct? I was painting parts white the other day and started to paint the inside of the air brake and noticed pin removal mold marks that needed to be filled first, but now after looking at a few pictures I don't think I will even have the air brake up so painting it is not needed.
Is this how you people have built your F-15E?

Thanks

Mike
