Seam lines in F-15 intakes
Posted by MikeV on Sunday, December 7, 2003 1:23 PM
What do you people who have built the 1/48 F-15E kits do for the unsightly seam that is visible in the air intakes? They have to be painted white and then the two halves are glued together leaving a seam. I could put the red covers over the intakes when finished to hide them I guess.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

You know I just saw something that might help with that in one of the FSM tips. Try that ink correction tape you buy at the office supply stores... you know like white out. That could nicely cover a small seam and it is white, so no painting required (as long as the intake is white in both sections.

Another thing that works good is model cement although it requires some sanding and you have to be carfeul not to sand out the lines on it

The trick I have used is wood dowels of different dia. Just glue sandpaper to the dowel and use light sanding pressure. Finish up with wet sanding with the dowel and sandpaper. Repaint and go from there.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I wish Revell had just made these intakes one piece. Big Smile [:D]
It should be fun trying to paint the inside white again with the two halves glued together.

Hey Mike, I got a Seamless Suckers exhaust intake for my A7-E. It looks very good and has no seams whatsoever. I think I've still got their address and price list if you want it. It's going to require a bit of dry fitting, but not to much I don't think, so it's going to be nice. They do make an F-15 intake.
