Actually, before I leave this, let me ask another question. I know it was elluded to, but can anyone tell me if any of the normal walkaround books have color pics in it? I'll buy one of them just for that if it does have good pics. Thanks.

Thanks for all the info guys. It gave me more hits in the search engine but unfortuantly didn't yeild any pics of the engines. I think I'll just go by the pic of the Mig-31 engine.

Thanks again.

hi bones - the pic is a MiG 31 motor i'm fairly sure, from what i can gather these were Aviadvigalel D30F6's. there is a contact on the site and links i think so maybe worth asking ? You could try a search with :

Tumanskii RD9 or
Sergei Tumanskii

The MiG 19 engines were origonaly called - Mikulin AM5
which later became the RD-9 ' s you are looking for.
Hope these tips help you out .

I think i saw MiG 19 P and PM colored pics on a magazine, but cant remember it if it has engine pics. the magazine is "Model Aircraft Monthly" with the article title of MIG 19 P/PM RADAR FARMER. Try to look at that magazine...... it might come in handy for other infos.

Do you guys know if there's a way to plug a black and white photo into a computer and make it accuratly produce the correct colors from it? Seems like there would be.

Man, if that pic was in color, it would be perfect. Thanks for the info on the Chinese equivalent also. That I didn't know about. Maybe there's a glimmer of hope of finding color pics of that engine.

Thanks for the help!

Geez, thanks for the vote, Domi. Unfortunately, this is all I have. Well, all that I've found so far, that is. Still grunging around in the library...

Larger Image

Anyhoo, this is a Shenyang F-6 of the Pakistani Air Force and is a Chinese license-built copy of the MiG-19S.

The J-6/F-6 was the result of the third attempt to produce the MiG-19 in China. Earlier attempts at copying the MiG-19 failed miserably, suffering from poor quality control. (the Shenyang J-6 & Nanchang J-6B being copies of the MiG-19P & MiG-19PM, respectively)

The engine used in the J-6/F-6 was the Wopen-6 which was a copy of the Tumansky RD-9BF-811.

Now, I really dunno if there were any outwardly visual differences between the Tumansky and the Wopen, but I hope this photo is of use.

There's a page on the IPMS Stockholm site that has some decent shots of the cans on a museum bird, but I dunno how helpful these will be either.

I think there's an Aerofax book out on the MiG-19 and there's fersher a Squadron in Action. Used to have the in Action, but I don't recall what kinda detail shots were in there.

Oh, and I think that 4+ Publications has a book on the MiG-19 as well. Not sure, though...

Wish I had more to offer. Disapprove [V]

To be honest, I haven't looked into getting any of the books on this aircraft yet. Up until now, I've been able to find everything I need and more on the net. One person I spoke with said one of the Mig-19 books was mostly B/W photos. Because of the era, and as silly as it may sound, I'm sort of afraid to buy one.

In that case, calling Blackwolfscd!! Big Smile [:D]

I'd think there would be details in the new Aerofax guide on the 'Farmer', no? Might also be worth you paging Blackwolfscd, as he seem to have lots of info on Soviet stuff...

Ok, does anyone have any sources at all for Russian aircraft engines? As silly as it sounds, I hadn't been able to find that either.

I have looked all over the net to find pics of the Tumansky RD-9 engines in a Mig-19. I can't find anything. In fact, I really can't even find any soviet engine pics good enough to go by. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm starting to run out of ways to search the web.
