Clear instrument panel?
Posted by Bones-coa on Friday, December 12, 2003 6:17 PM
Ok, this maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I'm building a Trumpeter kit and the instrument panel is 3 pieces. A gray plastic piece. An acetate piece goes on top of that, and a clear piece goes on that. Why is this piece clear? I could understand it if the dial faces were not drilled out, but they are. The whole clear piece needs to be painted. Is there something I'm missing?

FSMs review of F-105G showed that the outermost intrument panel was clear and needed to be painted gray. I'm guessing it's a Trumpeter thing.

Anyone...any thoughts?

maybe the grey piece is supposed to be the "front" of the panell that you can see, then the clear piece is supposed to be the " insturment glass", then the last is supposed to be the faces of the gauges??? Its a guess anyways

The back panel is painted flat black. The film goes between the front and back. The film is nothing more than a negative or picture containing the instruments. The front part, or clear part, contains the instrument bezels, knobs, etc. Once that is painted black, you will be able to see the instruments through the cutout holes in the painted clear part. Paint only the outter part, not inside the holes. This will give a 3 D effect to the instrument panel.
