I've said it before of Hobbycraft Canada on these forums and I'll say it again, it really depends on when the kit was made what quality you'll find in it.
A hobbycraft kit from 10 or 12 years ago or more is likely to be a complete disapointment in all respects.
I don't know if the company came under new management a decade or so ago, but thats when they started making better kits. Today's Hobbycraft kits are generally good except they tend to be a bit spartan on cockpit and landing gear well detail and the painting instructions are not always clear, but they do have good overall shapes and are in scale so can be worked with.
Hobbycraft had 1/48 Hurricanes both before and after the quality change, so without really knowing when the kit you spoke of was made, I can't really say for certain if the kit you missed out on was a real loss to you or not.
