FSM posted a kit review on the Trumpeter kit in mid December. I was surprised that there was no mention of the seat problem for the C. I submitted a comment on this but it was never shown. I wonder if it fell under "Offensive language, personal attacks, or irrelevant comments"?

Not to worry! The pics are from the F-100C and F-100D flight manuals. They're government publications, so they're not copyrighted.

Cheers!

Ben,

Thank you for the picture. Now, if I can be patient, I may be able to build a simple tube frame Sabre Dog style.

BTW, where is the source of your picture? I hope that Michael Benolkin can include it on his site if it is NOT copyrighted.

Here's the F-100C seat:   The F-100A & F-100C seat sat in a tube frame and had a red, hard foam(?) pad in the seat back. I don't think the As & Cs were ever refitted with the D seat.

Here's the F-100F seat. The only difference between the D & F seats was the front seat of the F had the headrest split horizontally and the upper half could fold back: http://www.f-100.org/hun108.shtml  Sorry, but for some reason, I can't get the pic to come up, so you'll just have to click on the link.

HTH.

I have had a good look around & the only factual thing I can find is that F-100s were fitted with NAA catapult seats of differing models. Looking at F-8fanatic's "C" seat, it looks to me that the "D" seat might not rerally be all that different - look at the seat shell, armrests & rear frame, they all look very similar? here are some pic links;

Also keep in mind that the "High Wire" upgrade programme may have had an influence on the model of seat fitted to the F-100C (anyone know)?

I have not seen a Sabre Dog resin seat since Blackbox went out of business. It is equally difficult to find as the 100C seat. I am not in a position to sacrifice a Pro-modeller seat. Approve [^] I guess that I will have to wait or a D seat would be suffice in a C.

I am still very interested in what a C seat looks like. Is it possible to do some minimal scratch build (my skill is very limited) to modify the D seat, such as the headrest, to make it more pausible? F8anatic gave a reference to one picture, but the view is limited to from the top.

The 1/32 kit's seat is OK, since it's correct for an F-100D, but you can replace it with a resin one for better detail. I like AMS Resin's seat. It's very nice.

I would bet Trumpeter just used the F-100D cockpit for their C as a cost-saving measure, since most folks probably wouldn't care. If you don't want to wait for AMS's upcoming F-100C cockpit, you could start with a seat from a Pro Modeler F-86D and modify it slightly and get fairly close to a C seat.

F-100C Ejection Seats
Posted by keilau on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 7:03 AM

There are many reports on Trumpeter got the ejection seat wrong on both the 1:32 and 1:48 scale F-100C Super Sabre. Anyone have a link to pictures on what the C seat should look like? (Nothing on the F-100.org or the ejectionseat sites)

AMS Resin reports a 1:48 scale seat in work, but promised no release date.
