USAF Missile Carts
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 4:00 AM
Does anyone know of a manufacturer of USAF missile carts in 1/48th scale? Specifically, what I am looking for is a cart used to transport AIM-9s and AIM-120s to/from F-15s/F-16s.
Or, does anyone have any photos they would be willing to share of aforementioned carts? At last resort I could scratchbuild the cart, but being lazy, would prefer just to build one straight out of the box.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.Question [?]

Around 20 years ago, ESCI released their 1/48 scale AGE kit. It included the MJ-1, AGE tractor, bomb/missile trailer, tow bar and others items. The trailer was the M-5 light weright trailer without the center section being removeable. No stands or missile racks came with it. If you could find one of these, it would be easy to build the racks.

It was kit N0 4025. It has long been OOP but you may find one around Ebay or somewhere.

I think some of their re-released aircraft kits come with this ground equipment included.
Kinda like a "diorama-in-a-box".

I thought Hasegawa made a 1/48 kit of ground support equipment, but that could have been only 1/72 scale.

The only thing I have seen is this bomb loading cart by Verlinden which is also used for missiles like the AIM-120.

Hey Dick McC;
well the trailers that are used to haul AIM-9's to AIM-120's are the same old bomb carts with a rack that holds the missiles and they are Tied Down with tie down straps there isn't a special cart just for missiles,

Appreciate all the assistance. Guess I'll scratchbuild up something... Now where did I put all those little wheels I was going to put in my spares box?

Hasagawa does a weapons loading set in 1/72 not 1/48. The best set i've seen in 1/48 is ground support equipment that was included in the old AMT/ERTL A-10 kit. I have'nt seen it on my side of the pond for a while but it might still be availiable in the U.S.

Tango.
I just saw one of those at Michael's Hobby Shop. It's a localised chain here in the Central US. They happened to have it marked down a third that particular day. Trying to compete with Hobby Lobby. But, they just don't have as good of a variety of kit manufacturers.
I guess I should have bought it. But, I have the ground equipment kits.
