I despise yellow

I am doing the underside wing tips on a Stuka from the Leningrad front. It is 1:48 Hasegawa. I airbrushed 2 coats of flat yellow on the surface and it still looks pale and thin. Maybe that is it, maybe it was too thin, about 50:50 is what I used. Anyway, probably do another 2-3 coats. Bah humbug, I hate yellow.

yellow is tough.
i usually shoot a coat of flat white first to 'prime' for yellow.
this seems to help it get a deeper, brighter color.

I was lazy last night and painted the propeller tips for a wildcat and corsair without a white base coat. It took about 6 light coats and one fairly heavy coat before I felt it was "good enough". I also mix about 50:50 as I like doing thinner lighter coats, it gets a smoother surface in the end.

Try using Floquil's reefer white as a base coat. Itt airbrushes perfectly right out of the bottle. Then follow with several light coats of yellow. The yellow wingtips on my Dornier came out great using this method.

Yellow and white are the work of the devil. Evil [}:)]

Those colors were put here to give all modelers headaches.

I share your pain, Plum1030 most of my propellers look like they have yellow jell-o for tips... Angry [:(!]

Are you guys sure one coat of flat white will take care of the yellow problem? then how do you prime for white? yellow primer? Tongue [:P]

like I said, I do A LOT of light coats, ten or more. It's worth it though, I end up with a very even and opaque coat.

Try Floquils yellow. Very nice paint. The white primer trick works great.

The secret to white is car spray paint cans.
Since I started using the white spray for an undercoat I fear no colour.

I also always undercoat yellow with white. I make sure that I first wash the plane with isopropyl alcohol - it removes body oils that prevent the paint from sticking, and evaporates by itself. I never seem to be able to remove all the residue if I wash it with soap.

if you can get it use Mr White Base 1000 from Gunze Sangyo it gives a very good
white finish with very few coats and is very tough.
