I want a Spitfire collection...

Hi Keith, hasegawa do an exellent MK1 (the airfix one is a MK1a) for a MK9 AVOID the Matchbox kit, its almost useless unless you like loads of hard work. SMER do a nice HFmk6 (the one with the extended wings) there are some griffon engined spits (by MPM i think - i'll check in my model room as i have the battle of britain memorial flight set with them in). heller do a good MK16e frog/novo did a MK14 that could be made into a nice model with some work. the italeri kit looks quite good but i havn't built mine yet. hope this helps and i'll post some more info when i have looked in my model room. Tamiya also produces 1/72 Spitfire Mk1 and MkV/Vb. Although I haven't built them before(I only built the 1/48 ones), given the reputation of Tamiya, you should not be disappointed. Academy also produces a 1/72 Spitfire Mk14, you can check the review here:

Fujimi also produces some later version(MkVIII, IX? Can't remember). Hope this help.

I'm building a Tamiya 1/72 Spit Mk Vb right now. It is really very very good. No flash, no fit problems, highly detailed. I can't say anything bad about it at all. I picked up an Eduard photoetch set for it and a vacuform canopy,but I haven't gotten to that part yet. The interior is great, the shape is great, and the panel lines are finely engraved. Can't go wrong with it.

Tamiya makes the best Spitfire Mk I and Mk V, far superior to the Hasegawa and Italeri kits. Hasegawa makes the best Mk VIII and IX. Acadamy makes a very good Mk XIV. Short run kits of other Marks have been released by Eduard, MPM, Special Hobby and others but are mostly OOP and hard to find.

and then there's the spiteful and seafang variants, and the attacker that used the spiteful's wings and the follow on from that the scimitar and then the swift ( but will it end there? LoL)......Greg

Try going to www.hannants.co.uk and typing spitfire into the search engine after specifiying 1:72 scale.You might get a shock.I have at home 19 different 1:72 scale spits from a Mk1a to a pr MK XIX and there are still others i haven't got.I also have a Pr MK1g in pink but I can't remember who did the conversion kit.
