Natural-metal Mitchell
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 27, 2003 7:17 PM
I am preparing to begin construction on my Accurate Miniatures B-25 Mitchell, and would like to finish it in a natural metal scheme complete with nose art. I would appreciate any help in locating a suitable decal sheet and/or references. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Since you asked I have always liked Chow Hound Junior. It was a silver B-25 that flew in the Phillipines. The aircraft wasnt armed however and the upper turret was faired over. Aeromaster made some good decals for Chow Hound Jr. but theyre out of production according to their site but you may be able to find them elsewhere like ebay.

What a co-inkydink! I was just flipping through my references on the same subject. "Warpath Across the Pacific" by Lawrence J. Hickey has
numerous photos and profiles, including natural metal finished types.
My favorite is a B-25J-22 #44-29577, Lady Lil of the 498th BS, Clark Field, May 1945.
Squadron Signal In Action #34 has a few photos and a great color profile of a 12th BG B-25-J, Sunday Punch.
Several more MTO natural metal Mitchells are profiled in the Osprey
Combat Aircraft #32. Some neat stuff in this one and it is readily available and not too expensive.
Detail & Scale #60 is loaded with color interior shots and detail photos of just about everything you would want to stick into or on your "J".

Snakedriver... want another wierd coincidence... Warpath Across the Pacific contains an aircraft named Tondelayo. Tondelayo was later renamed Chow Hound. Chow Hound Jr. was named after the Chow Hound!

Interesting project...do the D in both liveries and then the J (Chow Hound Jr.) . I love that book. I can't imagine anyone reading it and not being inspired to model one of the B-25's in the book. I saw a thread on this forum that had something on the Hasegawa B-25's. Gonna have to find it and check it out. I don't have the room to get into 1/48th or larger
except for choppers (my modelling passion)so I'm hoping for a good 1/72 Mitchell. A natural metal finish would be a real eyecatcher. My girlfriend is gonna holler like the dickens, but I just have to go play with the plastic.
