murph, i to totally agree.the instruction manual is pretty lame to. it's coming out well with some guess work. very frustrating kit. good luck with yours
lewbud It's the same as the Airfix kit. Fairly good shape, not a lot of detail, but lots of room for it. Raised panel lines.

+1. I built the Airfix version with Big Beautiful Doll decals. The kit is a dog to build. Horrendous fit issues. I suppose I could have done a better job had I been more patient but I had just gotten back into modeling after a VERY long absence. Dry fit. Then dry fit again. Dry fit some more. When you think you've dry fitted enough, keep dry fitting some more.
Good luck.

Retired and living the dream!
I have that kit unbuilt, and the Trumpeter kit half built.
That MPC kit is really not good.
I personally wouldn't throw too much (me- none) AM stuff or $$ at it.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I built one a few years back and being a former Airfix kit, it does have some fit issues. As with all the 1/24th Airfix kits I've built, I always find problems with their engine cowling area, though they are still fun to build and one can detail it through scratch building. I believe CAM may still have some P-51 decals for that scale.
On the bench: So many hanger queens.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
They should be OK to use. I've put detail sets designed for one brand into another brand of the same model. Although you might have to slightly modify the parts as the instructions will be geared toward the recommended kit. I done this many times and have had no problem, just be sure to match the same variant of the aircraft you're doing, i.e. don't get the set designed for the P-51B, if you have a P-51D.
I did a quick search at Squadron and found the Edwaurd seatbelts and a color self-adheasive cockpit card set for the Trump. 1/24th, scale P-51. Do you think these would be Ok to use. I do no tknow how much the cockpit changed over the years. I need to do a bit more research
Thank You! Will do.

Big Jake Any source for upgrades in 1/24th. scale? I normally don't build to many wingy thingy's ;) I'm a keel head.

Search GreatModels.com or Squadron.com. I have an Airfix 1/24 Mustang and found Tuskegee Airmen decals for it on one of those sites, can't remember which. Also fond a set of seatbelts for it, too.
Woof woof woof. I had one years ago but it's got less detail than most 1/48 scale kits. Good luck with it. Show us progress pics as you go along. Mine was badly warped along the fuselage and wings as well.
It's the same as the Airfix kit. Fairly good shape, not a lot of detail, but lots of room for it. Raised panel lines. Decals might be better than the Airfix version but doubtful. I've got one that will eventually be turned into the racer Red Baron (RB-51).
I was able to score a MPC P-51 in 1/24th. I'd forgoten they even producted a version in 1/24th. Anybody have any pro and cons on the model?
