Just for something a little different:

Too bad noboby makes a Basler conversion in 1:48. I've worked on 8 C-47s, all baslers except for one which was one of the old US navy super DC-3s, on a side note I found out over the holidays that my mid 90 year old great uncle worked on RCAF dakotas in Burma in WWII, he was sure interested to hear about the fact that 60 some odd years later I'm working on the same planes (actually one of them could be the same plane, the overall white one went straight to the RCAF in WWII, though I can't find any info above that but their where only 3 RCAF dakota squadrons)

I actually like that last gray one you posted. I think I might pick up another 1/72 C-47 and do it up in that scheme.

There's always an alternative to my father's C-47:

or:

A.D.C. gray

Olive Drab (TS-5 or AS-6) over Neutral Gray (AS-7 or possibly TS-32) are what the majority of C-47s in WWII were painted in.

C-47 Color Question
Posted by FastasEF on Monday, January 11, 2010 6:20 PM

After a ... hiatus(ugh), I am working on a kit I got a LONG time ago as a gift and had previously, (when I was ... 14ish(?)), started. It's Italeri's 1/72 C-47 Skytrain.

Question is: What spray color, preferably Tamiya, would be closer to the exterior colors of this plane? Top color is olive drab so I'm thinking either TS-5 or TS-28 and the underside is dark ghost gray which Tamiya also makes but looks pretty blue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Josh
