do you or anyone else out there know if the italeri e/h kit has pilot figures in the kit? when testors brought it out, i thought i saw them on the sidesand on back of the box but it's been a long time and i wasn't sure.

I bought the Testor's version when it was initially released back in the 80s and it didn't have any figures of any type included that I can recall...

C-130A three blades can be ordered from Contrails here:

Some more info about the differences with the C-130A here:

thanks for the photos !!!!! they're a big help !!!!!. my original intent was to get the1/48 c-130 e/h plus the a gunship and simply switch props. i know you can get the dc-130a on ebay and just swich props there. i'm not much for resin though. i also know that on google there's shots of the c-130a at national vigilance park at ft. meade,md painted up to look like 60528. i've seen varied reviews on italeri's a gunship. i'm not an overly picky modeler just a simple out of the box / add if you need to type. do you or anyone else out there know if the italeri e/h kit has pilot figures in the kit? when testors brought it out, i thought i saw them on the sidesand on back of the box but it's been a long time and i wasn't sure.  thanks again.    maurice

Here are some photos. one is of a C-130A-II. The others are C-130B-IIs out of Yokota. The latter are similar. Your C-130A-II may not have had the small black radome on the upper fuselage in 1958.

I think that you should start with the Italeri C-130E/H kit and use aftermarket engines, (Flightpath) and props. dhornii at ARC had info about someone who does resin C-130A props. He made the masters. The only reason to look at the AC-130A kit is that it has three blade props, that aren't very good. Search C-130A at ARC and you can find some good info about the differences between the Italeri kit and a C-130A.

Some quick notes on what needs to be done to make a 56 year C-130A.

The T-56-9 engines were set further back into the wing, and the nacelle fairings under the wing need to be lengthened. The inner ones extend onto the flaps. The engines provided in the kit are the right length for a C-130A, which means that to make a C-130B and on, you need to add a spacer.

You need to scribe a cargo door aft of the crew entrance door and add an extra window to the rear of the forward three in the kit.

If you want more details, I can add to this.

Best wishes,

Grant

Check out John Vojtech's 1:72 AC-130, it shows the possibilities either a 1:72 or 1:48 kit can offer.

thanks !!!! that really helps !!!!!! references are easy to get on 60528. google plus the book price of vgilance has shots of 60528 before it's last mission and gun camera shots of it going down. outwardly,it looked just like any other c-130a transport but inside it had extra consoles for elint operators. thaanks again

Just like the origional conversion the guns are probally add-ons. I have the Monogram DC3 'Spooky' gunship in 1/48 scale and looking at the mini 7.62 gattling guns I probally will scratch build them out of 6 needles and some plastic and metal bits. Best to use the kit thats the most accurate for initial production ac - 130's and source your own weapons, radar and sighting equipment.

modeling c-130 60528 in 1/48 scale

i'm just getting some info for right now to model c-130a 60528 which was shot down by russian mig-17s back on sept 2,1958. i know you can do one with the 1/144 scale minicraft c-130a but i wanted to put  pilot figures in it since i've got 1/48 scale figures in my spares box. i know about the testors/italeri ac-130a gunship in both 1/48 and 1/72 scales. i've seen in a past forum that the 1/48scale c-130 e/h and the gunship version are the same kits with the gunship parts as add on parts. anyone know if the ac-130a's gunship parts are add ons ? sorry it sounds like a dumb question but i just wasn't sure.
