What aircraft kits should TAMIYA take out this year?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 3, 2004 7:11 PM
I definitely think that TAMIYA should bring out kits like:

P-40E Warhawk
Junkers Ju87 Stuka
Grumman F6F Hellcat
B-17 Flying Fortress
Fulcrum Mig-29

All in 1/48 scale, I've seen enough Corsairs, Mustangs, 190s, 109s.
I would like to see your thoughts. Big Smile [:D]

There is absolutely no need to replace Hasegawa's Ju 87 of F6F, unless you want easy (yawn) kits.

Yeah, your right on the Stuka and Hellcat, Hasegawa has done a good job on those kits, but I was also thinking what 1/32 scale aircraft of WWII would be nice from TAMIYA?

I would LOVE to see a 1/48th North American A-5 Vigilante (any version) from Tamiya or Hasegawa.

A 1/32nd B-36 Peacemaker would be nice also, but I AM a bit of a dreamer at times........

How about a F8F-2 Bearcat and an F-82 Twin Mustang?

Clear Left!

Oh yeah, a 1/32 F-18 Hornet would be spectacular, Hasegawa has some great 1/48 Hornets. A Peacemaker would be a nice piece of art too.
I think a TAMIYA 1/48 P-40E Warhawk should be his ultimate of the year for WWII aircraft. MR. TAMIYA, GET TO WORK ON THAT......LOL!!!
Thank y'all for your support on this topic, keep the ideas coming.

I really wish Tamiya would make a 1/48th B-17, kinda over due imho. I heard that Mirage has 1 coming out but it seems that they arent much better then whats out now. Please someone make a quality B-17 in 1/48th!

Just look at the "1/48 scale wishlist" post from a few days back... Pretty much any of those will do if Tamiya is interested. Again, I second the motion for an injection-molded 1/48th Vigilante!

From some of the things I've heard we will be lucky if Tamiya is still in business by the end of the year.

Yes please do tell! I haven't heard that rumor. Where did you hear/read that? I wholeheartedly agree on the F-82 and the F-8 Bearcat! I'd also love to see them come out with a P-61. I'm still waiting for the AmTech kits. With my luck they'll come out the day after my funeral.

Ive never been in the loop....Tongue [:P]
But please do tell as this is news to me and a few others!
Tamiya has way to much on the market and a large share to be in serious trouble.....of course Im probably wrong but I know for some one who might be out of business they sure are launching an awful lot of new products and lines(not just plastic related).....

How about a 1/72 Short S.25 Sunderland......There's one floating around at there that was done yrs ago......but I have yet to find it or see it.

Wow! Do you have an annex to your house for this!?

I'd think you would almost need a small hanger!

That would be soooooo cool though

My first choice: A fresh tooling of a 1/48 F-101 B/F Voodoo. The whole Voodoo family would be nice actually.

Some others for 48th that come to mind:

DeHavilland Vampire/Sea Vixen family (please, please, pleeeease!Tongue [:P])
Ilyushin IL-28 "Beagle"
MiG-23/27 variants
S-2F Tracker
SAAB Viggen (The Viggen is almost gone from the skies, please say the old Esci, now Airfix, kit won't be the last word in 1/48 representations of that beauty!Sad [:(])

This last one is a real looooooong shot, but would look great on the shelf next their MiG-15: I'd reeeeeally love a 1/48 kit of the Lavochkin 15. It never saw service outside the Soviet Union and by some accounts was a better jet than the MiG-15. Unfortunately it was more complex and Lavochkin was falling out of favour with the Soviet Government at the time and was just about to be shut down.

Like I say, a long shot, but I'd love to see it.Shy [8)]

OK Here goes ALL 1/48

Tempest
Typhoon
Blackburn Firebrand
Sea Fury
Me 110
Me410
Ju88
Ju188
Do17
G3M Nell
Helen
Hampden

OOPS I guess I rambled on a bit much
But I really like twin engine prop and I am beginning to like 1/48 more.
One thing is Tamiya has to lower thier prices a little $40 for a single engine fighter is a bit steep. JOHN

I wish Tamiya would bring out a 1/32 Spitfire as good as the 1/48 versions.

I forgot to add, in addition to the 1/32nd B-36, that a 1/48th North American OV-10 Bronco & a 1/48th Cessna SkyMaster would be nice kits. The Testors offerings of these two kits S--K!!!

historian63,

Nope, no addition to the house. I just like to dream a lot........................ Can you imagine how BIG that kit would be, though? At LEAST a $200 price tag.

For me, a B-17 would be the tops!! It would be huge, in 1/48, and probably would cost a hundred dollers, but it would be worth it for sure!!! I'll pay for a couple right now if they would take my money!!!

O.K. guys here's what I learned about Tamiya from their two reps that were here last summer at the I.P.M.S. Nats. I asked them about a B-17 in 1/48 scale and they laughed! They said that: "A B-17 in any scale is only a rumor". I asked if they were going to do any more 1950's Navy jets (like a F-11F Tiger or an F3H Demon) and this is what they told me... Tamiya is mainly concerned about how well their products are going to sell in Japan, and if the subject won't have any appeal in their own country then Tamiya won't produce it. So my suggestions have already been shot down. Now this is what the represevtatives of the company that were present told me. If it isn't true then Tamiya needs to can these two and hire guys who know what's going on. Ever since last summer I haven't looked at Tamiya the same. If what those two guys said is true then it's a shame. They make great models and can go far.Disapprove [V]
